Anbody a bit dissapointed with Marvel Comics showing at SDCC?

Seems like DC has been far more interesting, bold and inviting.

The reveals have been pretty dissapointing. Joe Q seems to have gotten even worse with dealing with fans..and he has got the whole Marvel staff refusing to even blow mild spoilers or creative direction, as if there working at Area 51.

I mean so we got Millar back on Ultimates, as if he's done jack in 616..a cloak and dagger series (which I am excited to check out, but I don't care for the writer)Some lame Stephen King thing...not impressed.

War of Kings looks cool, but thats about it...it is more like a minor event anyway.

SDCC is supposed to be the best con..Marvel seems a bit cocky..

Yea i was also disapointed with marvel, they didnt really announce anything huge. Although i think that could be a good thing at the same time. Joe Q admitted that Marvel's taking a break from big events after Secret Invasion...thank god!! The biggest thing that's gona happen is the War of Kings and it looks like Marvel is seriously shifting its focus back to the Ultimate Universe, there seems like there's much more goin on there than the 616. DC definitely dominated this con though.

I was very surprised and disappointed that there wasnt more news of the upcoming Marvel movies...i thought for SURE we'd at least get an announcement concerning who was playing Thor, and what was going on with Spider-Man 4....

Thor doesn't even have a director right now, so casting would seem to be a ways off.

I think the only movie marvel's got next year is Wolverine Origins, 2009's lookin like a slow year for them.

Some lame Stephen King thing??!!?? This is The Stand, which is only Stephen Kings best book ever!!! Plus, thanks to Stephen King, I've seen more non-comic fans come into various comic stores to pick up The Dark Tower comics than I've seen ever before.

Ive never been a huge Fan of THE STAND becuase I read Robert McCammon's Swan Song first, and Ive always felt it was superior.

But I was refferring to the "original motion thing" and not The Stand.

Completely agree. What is Marvel's problem lately? Its like they're trying to start some passive aggressive war with its own fans.

After all their crap this year and Dark Knight being so huge, I wouldn't be shocked to see DC start beating them.

Good for the non-comic fans, but as far as big comic reveals go, Stephen King-related stuff is pretty lame. We want surprises about the big Marvel properties, not licensed stuff.

War of Kings sounds pretty awesome but that really is the only noteworthy thing to come out of Marvel at SDCC. DC definitely stole the show as far as major announcements and revelations, even if a lot of their announcements sucked.

I've been following it ever since the 1st X-Men movie came out, and a movie seems to have zero-impact on sales of the ongoing title.

I get your point, and I would love to see DC get its **** together, because I think competition is goooooood, but I wouldn't count on TDK being the spark plug.

It seems kind of rare for a movie to impact a comic's demand. Of course, Batman (the 80's one) did it in a big way...but, that was just as much a factor of Frank Miller's "Dark Knight."

With the 1st X-Men movie, I remember being really upset that Marvel decided to take the X-books in a totally new direction at that point. Everything that was cool about the movie wasn't what the books were about.

Of course, I've finally decided to try and get the complete Watchmen series, and that's proving to be rather expensive. I had it originally, before I sold my first collection. (STILL and FOREVER kicking myself on that one.) I just got issues #1 and #2 off ebay with a 50 set of DC comics for $50.00. (Luckily, I have been looking for Legion Lost, and they had issues 2-12 of that included; so, it was very much worth it.) Still, a complete set of Watchmen on ebay is running about $200.00. I can get it online with mycomicshop for about 18.00 bucks an issue; so, I might be the route to take. At least I'll be assured of the quality of the books that way. (I finally picked up the first appearance of Hellboy with Next Men #21 on mycomicshop.)

Fans have always b****ed. That's why most comic professionals ignore us.

Did you get those first ones as they were coming out, or after the fact. I remember I initially passed on both Watchmen and Dark Knight because I thought they sounded stupid :o :O

You guys dont think the Iron Man movie had any effect on the new Invincible Iron Man series? I think it debuted in the top 5...i dont recall Iron Man selling so well since Heroes Reborn...

I got both of those when they came out. I remember reading issue #1 and #2 of Watchmen while on a train heading for Modesto, CA. I was blown away!

I was more talking about the price and demand of back issues going up in price.

Yeah, I think we talked about it before. It's definately the exception to the rule, though. I think Tony's heightened importance in the MU is partly responsible for the favorable response. But for once, they got the timing right. Releasing a good product at the same time that a good movie is coming out.

I think Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca had more to do with the Invincible Iron Man success than the movie, personally. The movie obviously didn't hurt, but if it were Jeff Parker and Leonard Kirk's Invincible Iron Man? It maybe would've gotten into the top ten with its first issue, but I doubt it would sustain that level of sales for long, even though it probably would've been every bit as good as Fraction and Larroca's take, since those creators I mentioned are excellent in their own right. Plus, Invincible Iron Man appeared to be a counterpoint to Director of SHIELD, which I know a lot of people weren't too thrilled with for whatever reason.

Plus Tony Stark was arguably unprecedented in importance in the Marvel U since around Dissassembled...

I hate to admit it , but Civil War did A LOT for Tony.

^Hell yea, who would've thought that ironman would be just as big as spiderman and the x-men? Thats what i love about marvel, when they want to they know how to really revamp characters and increase their significance.

It does seem odd that Marvel is just kinda like "business as usual" at the Con. Marvel's known for a lot of "this is gonna be huge" and pumping up upcoming stories.

And who said that Marvel is bad with fans?? Marvel does a lot more stuff to make the fans feel part of something, regardless of how you feel about all the decisions they're making. Just compare DC's website to Marvel's...even there you can see the difference.

The only thing I can think of, is that SDCC has more of a rep now for movies and hollywood, and less comics, maybe Marvel wanted to have the big comic reveals at other cons more comic oriented.

I'd have hoped for some better Marvel movie reveals at least..a poster or something.

I'd have killed for a Jeff Parker/Leonard Kirk IRON MAN. :(

Or hell, another go of AGENTS OF ATLAS.
