Marvel 'Legacy' question

The renumbering hopefully means that they won't be doing annual relaunches.

Hopefully.

Probably get a bump in the short term but Marvel needs to overhaul it's comic publishing business in the long term if it still wants to be around in the future.

I honestly feel sorry for Marvel fans. From what I see/hear it seems they've been ****ed on from a great height :csad:

Best bet to overhaul the comics division right now?
Fire Alonso and Brevoort, and probably nick spencer too

I don't think Disney really cares that much about the comic side of the business to fire Alonso and Brevoort. Disney makes far more money from the Marvel licensing and movies then it does from the comic publishing division.

The publishing division pretty much exists for the IP to fuel the rest of the Marvel business. This is probably why Marvel comics are so brand and franchise heavy now.

Well, I am getting a new Spirits of Vengeance books. So I am happy.

The whole thing is a joke. Given all the news regarding the "Legacy" stuff today, I'm kind of disappointed in Marvel. It seems like they are trying to do their own version of Rebirth without actually knowing why DC did that in the first place. As someone said earlier in this thread, it seems like Marvel is just doing the bare minimum to give fans the illusion that they care.

Welp... Not surprised by how today's announcements turned out to be...

I'm not surprised because I didn't have high expectations of giant changes. Therefore, I'm not disappointed either. I think I honestly would have been more disappointed if the books I was reading were all cancelled or had different creative teams. And I can't say it's fair for me to complain about the creative teams staying the same on books that I'm not reading and probably wouldn't start to read.

What are the changes that have just been announced?

Near as I can tell, Sam Wilson is back to being Falcon, Marvel 2 in 1 returns, starring Thing and Human Torch. New Spirits of Vengeance with Ghost Rider (Blaze), Satanna, Blade, and Hellstrom.

The rest depends on how much validity you put in covers. Which, lol.

Still no bruce banner return, so count me out for the legacy BS.

This looks like exactly the dumb, surface level change I expected. Nothing really gets changed at all. Spirits of Vengeance might be fun, though.

I'm getting Spirits of Vengeance, so I'm kind of happy. I mean, I am glad that there isn't a major status quo shift, and letting the current creators actually do their thing for the X books.

Am kind of disappointed that Ghost Rider or Venom didn't get into the Generations stuff.

^ I suspect he would have been if Felipe Smith's Ghost Rider book wasn't cancelled.

What are the changes that have just been announced?

A couple new books, return to legacy numbering, and a greater focus on optimistic heroic stories that find a way to include both the traditional heroes and the new, more diverse heroes.

Was it cancelled or just on a break. Because I seem to remember that the reason it didn't return immediately after Secret Wars was because of one of the creators being busy.

That sounds very Rebirth-like.

Probably. So does the giant-size Legacy one-shot that opens the whole thing.

So (as I said, I'm pretty out of touch with Marvel) is the idea that Legacy follows on from Marvel NOW! in the same way that Rebirth followed on from The New 52, i.e. as a directly connected continuation?

Yes...but whether it will be successful like Rebirth remains to be seen.
