Im surprised this isnt being discussed more
I miss the days when the hype’s Marvel Comics thread was poppin

Well I for one am excited, havent cared for the comics since Axel took over, and from what everyone says about Cebulski he seems like a good guy with a real love for the company and industry as a whole

Yeah the general consensus is that he isn't as problamatic as Axel's style as been.

Some are commenting that this is rather odd since he wasn't necessarily in line to take over, and that this might have come from Disney.

Seems like a good portion of the fan base is reacting to the news in a positive way. Interesting that this is happening so suddenly.

Thank goodness. Marvel has really been mediocre to lame for a number of years now, glad they changed the top level. Hopefully we'll see some big changes soon.
Honestly wish they'd brought Quesada back in though. He led the marvel renaissance

Not me. Quesada is whom I credit for the downfall of the X-books and only now his biggest mistake (Jean Grey remaining dead) is about to be corrected

I think the biggest issue against Axel is that he seems fairly hands off. Excessive editorial oversight of the Jim Shooter era created a ton of problems, but it works well when it feels like Marvel has a direction. On the other hand, Jeff Lemire just talked about the problems he had with too much editorial interference, so who knows.

I really think the bigger problems are not creative, they're administrative (they need more editors and fewer books), but who knows if this will help. Should be interesting to see - particularly which books get cancelled or announced.

Top to bottom there are numerous problems with Marvel right now. Too many books, and sales are god awful. They need to hit reset on multiple levels.

Bendis is out, Alonso is out...the times they are a-changin'.

Honestly, sales numbers are a problem only if you're going for a specific thing. If you're going for high profitability per book, yeah, it's bad. But if you're going for total profits, lots of books with a little bit of profit is fine provided you turn out enough books. I don't think it's good for the industry, but I don't think Marvel is necessarily doing it wrong.

But forcing people to read a lot of those books for the sake of universe-wide crossovers is doing it wrong. Especially when you start blending multiple universes. *glares at Secret Wars*

I'm torn on Quesada's tenure. He was EIC when I was first starting to regularly read (largely brought in because of Ultimate Spider-Man), but his work as EIC overall did more harm than good.

Like someone mentioned, he ruined the X-books, especially post-Morrison. And his life-long vendetta against an adult Spider-Man has irreparably broken the character.

All these shakeups happening is really exciting! A new era may be about to dawn at Marvel Comics, fingers crossed!

All I had to do was read that Cebulski worked as editor on BKV's Runaways to know that this can't possibly be a bad change.

I think the surprise loss of Bendis to DC is what forced this change.

Very possible.

Very good points.
But I loved Ult Spider-Man, Ultimates season 1 and 2, and Ult FF for the first couple dozen issues. I also loved New Avengers for the first 20 issues or so, Civil War, Marvel Knights Spider-Man and many others.
On the other hand I'll never forgive him for One More Day.
So yeah it's a mixed bag...

That was fast. And hey, it's that guy whose name is mentioned in MUA game for me to ask Vision about, he also did the anime titans coming to Marvel as a threat, in a crossover non-canon event.

No matter how much good he did for Marvel, Quesada will always be a horrendous failure for me because my primary books coming into that time was Spider-Man and the X-Men line... and he ruined them. I've not been a fan of Alonzo because I honestly feel that he was just an extension of Quesada.

I'm hoping that Cebulski will come in and help things out more. Be more stingy on continuity, death and resurrection. I know that Shooter was despised because of how strict he was, but man Marvel needs that right now. Make deaths feel important again. Make resurrections feel important again. Make each title feel unique and stop with the idiotic constant relaunches.

I think the things like continuity is more for the editors.

I think Cebulski's big pitch was essentially doing Marvel UK for a lot of other countries.

So apparently Cebulski was writing under a pseudonym for Marvel before...it's unclear whether Marvel actually knew who it was or not.

http://mashable.com/2017/11/29/cebu...panese-pseudonym/?utm_cid=hp-h-2#SXkXBr_Y8aqx

There's some backlash about him using a Japanese pseudonym, and allegations of foul play with him using this pseudonym to either double dip in Marvel's freelance pool, or to keep other (actual) Japanese people from getting any exposure.

LOL ew this guy is like a complete weeb.

In 2017, Marvel has less women in bathing suits, more women and minorities in integral roles, and more queer characters in books than ever before. I can read some comics where women's backs don't look broken. If Alonso helped with this than kudos to him. Some of the events have been god-awful, but I liked Bendis' X-men, and Hickman's Avengers, and love Coates' Black Panther, Aaron's Thor, and Wilson's Ms Marvel. And I'm really enjoying Resurexion. Good luck to Cebulski, internet fans always hate the EiC.

Later reports have said they didn't know at the time, but found out recently (I believe earlier this year). Certainly, before the promotion decision but well after he discontinued the use of the name.

Apparently, Alonso has been liking many tweets that are critical of Cebulski and Amanat (who defended the former) on this subject today. :sus

You know mean he doesn't like the guy who replaced him when he lost his job? Shocked :cwink:
