Marvel Prepping Four Series and a Miniseries

I'm down for Stilt Man. :)

I hope Stilt Man does show up in the series. For a movie, where you can only tell limited stories, he might seem like a waste of a spot. But for an ongoing TV show, I don't see why not.

I'd also like to see Gladiator.

And Deathstalker

And if those two showed up, maybe Man Thing as well. The whole episode could be set in Florida.

And the beauty of the properties they chose is that the budget on these things don't need to even be too high. The majority of DD's budget, for example, is probably going to go into his costume. These street level characters don't need all sorts of special effects and visuals.

The only time they really would have to pony up the dough on DD would be whenever we see things from his perspective.
They would have to really put down hard work when it comes to his physical abilites though, regarding both his acrobatics and martial arts.
Just don't make him able to jump 3 meters up in the air again though :woot:

Just another thing that came to mind...

Does anyone think that maybe, just maybe, this could be the project that gets Marvel & Sony to play nice? Avi Arad seems to want a crossover, and I remember something about him claiming Sony had the Kingpin rights and "loaned them" to Fox for the Daredevil film. I don't think Kingpin is necessary for Daredevil season one, but I'd definitely want him in the future.

If they were really hard pressed, I suppose they could use the Fox DD costume. The only problem is that unless they get someone of Ben Affleck's height, it will probably not fit most actors.

I prefer his suit not to be leather again though. And definitely don't want Elektra's to be.

I wouldn't mind that suit but I guess they would want to distance themselves from that movie as much as possible.
I would really like them to design the billy club a lot different from the movie, wasn't a big fan of how they looked.

They could always go with the blatantly transparent Elektra costume you can see in the concept art included on the Daredevil DVD. :oldrazz:
Seriously, what were they thinking on that one? (Okay, I know exactly what they were thinking, but they had to have known that a transparent top with no bra wasn't going to fly)

I don't recall that concept art. I only have the Directors Cut DVD so never saw that.

I'd like something more like the comic version though where she a more silky-looking costume and that loincloth thing that looks more like a ribbon that flows whenever she jumps around. It would look fantastic like some rhythmic gymnast with all those swirling ribbons.

As for DD's costume, well Marvel should be able to improve on the Fox version since they've already seen how one works in live action. They probably have the Fox costume in their possession too so they can closely examine it rather than just looking at photos.

Will they be able to use Kingpin in the Daredevil show? I seem to remember someone saying Sony owns the rights to the character with Spider-Man and just made a deal with Fox to loan it to them for the Daredevil film.

Marvel has the rights to Spidey on TV. They can use Kingpin, technically they can use Spidey too; but that would piss off Sony & the fans (as Spidey wouldn't be in the Avengers like the public wants).

I wonder if Luke Cage & Iron Fist will have Hero for Hire movies, while their solo adventures remain on Netflix? At the very least, I expect them in Avengers movies if they're popular.

So will these be set in the MCU, I wonder?

Probably, there's no reason not to be. And about Spider-Man, it's more complicated than that, let's just say none of the studios can have Spidey on tv unless it's animated, there was a whole lawsuit with Mutant X

This is excellent news. Seriously between this, the Nightwing rumors and the Star Wars release date being revealed, today has been insane.

I was watching NCIS: LA and couldn't help thinking that LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell looked like they would be work as Luke Cage and Iron Fist :)

It's still anybody's guess right now, but I'd think they'd let the street level "Marvel Knights" do their own thing --- mainly crimefighting --- while the four-color Avengers do all the saving the world stuff. Yes, Cage and Rand joined the Bendisvengers and all, but I think the pre-Bendis Avengers, as well as their MCU counterparts, won't necessarily have these street fighters on their radar.

Nope. They'll have these ones on their radar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Super_Heroes_vs._Street_Fighter

LL as Cage I've thought of before (although I'd prefer someone younger now, he's 45 already), but O'Donnell as Iron Fist, I don't see it.

Yessssss!!!! Love this! Get Joe Carnahan to helm the DD series, STAT!

The main reason I think that O'Donnell would work is that those two have good chemistry together which is something that a Heroes for Hire series (or movie) would really need to have. SHIELD is currently struggling imo mainly because there is almost zero chemistry between the characters.

Marvel is open to doing films for these characters if they prove popular.

That's exactly what they're saying.

Sounds like that, to me too. Kind of sad though. Those four are not the Defenders. Cage, Iron Fist and Daredevil guest stared at various times. With Cage becoming a member eventually. But they were not founding members.

The Defenders volume 1, lasted well over a decade. The founding members were: Doctor Strange, Namor, and the Hulk. The Silver Surfer joined in issue 2, and Valkyrie joined issue 4. Nighthawk, Daimon Hellstorm, Patsy Walker, and Gargoyle were members for most of the series. Moonknight and Hawkeye were members, for a while as well, as were many Marvel characters. Beast took over the lead in issue 125, and they changed the title name to The New Defenders.

Hulk may still show up as would Doctor Strange after his movie. Namor and Silver Surfer cannot be used.

I thought Marvel had Namor. Surfer is with the FF so I get that one.

Maybe i'm just in the moment but i think i'm more excited about this than the future movieverse (which i'm still very *****ing excited for). this netflix deal just provides a huge opportunity from a storytelling perspective. Such a blank slate with little to no restrictions. I'm picturing a pseudo adaptation of Frank Millers man without Fear and Born Again in all its gritty dramatic glory and it just gets me amped up

Perhaps, but it just won't feel like the Defenders. I thought that Marvel Studios gained the rights back to the Surfer? Never been much of a fan of Namor, i followed him because he was a Defender.

Anyway, i was hoping after Dr. Strange, they might do a Defenders movie. There is a rumor of a new Hulk movie, for phase 3 or 4. If they have the rights to Surfer, then they could do a Defenders movie, with those three plus a few secondary characters. Oh well, i'll take the Netflix version.

Silver Surfer is with Fox. You may remember him from a little movie that involved a lot of garbage and Galactus the cloud. If you don't remember that, congratulations you lucky, lucky person. There was a rumor that Fox tried to negotiate a deal where Fox would keep Daredevil and instead relinquish the Surfer and Galactus, but... yeah, that doesn't seem to have happened. :cwink:
