Marvel Studios has started a writers' program

Marvel have their own comic book writers, why would they do this? Use your own comic book writers, Marvel.

I think this can be an incentive for the comic book writers to work with Marvel instead DC Comics because they can work in 2 mediums when called upon. The comic book writers know their stuff in and out unlike Mark Protosevich or David Self who need years after years to complete the writing because obviously they have to learn about the characters history first.

What's needed is a dependable Hollywood "story-to-movie scene converter" to assist the comic book writers. One guy, for all movies.

Easier said then done...Writing is a discipline, a lot like medicine....being a good comic book writer doesn't make a good screenplay writer or vice versa.....Would you want a podiatrist doing brain surgery???

I don't think that's remotely why Mark Protesevich and David Self take years and years to complete scripts. :).

JMS' TV writings, as I understand it, have been VERY well-received. BUt then he gave us "Sins Past".

He also gave us other stories which were good. Aside from a few stories here and there, I enjoyed his run on ASM.

Awesome news! I would LOVE to see those films. I wonder how Black Panther would look on film?

I don't get why they even need to hire writers. comics are story boards.

100% disagree with that statement. Sure, comics can use storyboarding effects, but a great comic utilizes the unique strengths of the medium to fullest effect. Watchmen, for example, is anything but a straight series of storyboards. That's like saying theater is movies. Or television is movies. Or novels are a script.

Marvel's program isn't going to attract any writers with a track record. The terms are too onerous, especially the first and last look for a year afterwards and the rights to everything written before. The monetary reward for a screenplay that gets made is too slight as well. It's a good foot in the door step for writers breaking into the business, but it's essentially Marvel trying to find buried gold without taking any risk on their part.

an easy way around it is use that time to learn how to write in a disciplined environment and save your great stuff for when that year is up

True but, dont you think Marvel would want to see how creative you were to keep you around? If you hold back, wont it backfire?
