This thread discusses Marvel's strategy and future in movie-making, both concerning the Avengers and other Marvel superhero movies.
I am very pleased and excited about how Marvel is going about introducing individual heroes before teaming them up in the Avengers movie. It is working out much better than DC/WB's plan of starting with the Justice League first, then breaking off into spin-offs--as of now, it has put DC in a rut.
As well as they've been doing, I think Marvel should adopt a mixture of the two strategies surrounding the Avengers:
If the Ant-Man doesn't get off the ground before the Avengers movie (which seems very likely), I would love to see him and Wasp get a spin-off afterwards. If Hawkeye and Black Panther have smaller roles in the Avengers movie (although Jon Favreau's revelation didn't include either of them), I'd love for them to get spin-offs for themselves, too. In effect, this strategy would be a chiastic structure: build-up with individual movies to the climactic Avengers movie then follow up with individual spin-offs and sequels that can reference the Avengers here and there, perhaps building up to Avengers sequels as well.
More generally, as Marvel establishes its larger movie universe, Marvel should revamp their past superhero movie flops by getting their rights and produce team-ups or cameos liberally. I've seen threads here and there about a Daredevil and Punisher team-up movie and other dream team-ups like Spidey/Daredevil or Secret Wars. The trickiest thing is for Marvel to regain the rights to their properties, which may never happen with X-men or Spider-Man. If they did in the far future, it would be awesome.
Anyway, what do you all think? How would you like to see Marvel approach their movies?
