Marvel Studios will Go Head to Head with Batman vs. Superman

It was a bit of a surprise for fans earlier this year when Warner Bros. Pictures moved Zack Snyder's Batman vs. Superman to May 6, 2016, not only delaying the much-anticipated comic book movie nearly a year, but setting it to open directly opposite a still-unrevealed Marvel Studios release. Although many suspected that Marvel would end up shifting dates, Kevin Feige tells /Film that there's likely to be a 2016 showdown with the Distinguished Competition.

"We’re certainly keeping the date there," he says, "and we’ll announce what that movie is, I assume, in the next few months."

There are a number of possible contenders for the May 6 spot, but the furthest along seems to be Doctor Strange, which is rumored to be confirming a director in the very near future. No matter what the project ends up being, Feige tells /Film that we may have an announcement even before this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Bold move.
It'll have to be something big to compete so I doubt they'd have the balls to put a new property up against something bound to be huge like Batman vs Superman.

I doubt they'd screw up their plans just because DC put a movie there. People will go see whatever Marvel movie they put out, they have a strong fan base already built. There is no need for them to do anything drastic like change the movie they already planned on releasing at that time.

Idk, they kind of screwed themselves over by sticking TIH in between iron man and the dark knight, granted they were also competing with themselves but still lol

What if they went bat **** crazy and moved Avengers 2 to that date lol pushing it back a whole year just to smash DC into the ground. How humiliating (and amazing for us) would that be having those 2 movies in the same potential weekend.

I think the reason DC moved Bats vs Supes back a year was because they were afraid of Avengers: Age of Ultron. lol cat and mouse play

Superman and Batman everyone and their grandma's will see this. These guys are the gold standard.

Just read that SvB MIGHT be moving to the week before that one.

Any which way I'm seeing both of them. I may line it up to where I see the Marvel movie then walk down the hallway to watch the Supes v Bat movie haha

Hunker down, mods.

Right? I'm hoping to get a lot of nerd rage in here. I need some amusement today, works slow. :oldrazz:

I already know which one I'm picking opening weekend. Marvel doesn't have a single property that I would choose over it.

We will find out the levels of their invincibility when Guardians comes out, so everyone, buy 10 tickets for that one!

TIH would have probably done better if it was the first blockbuster Hulk movie ever and if it came out when the MCU was more clearly established.
Since they wasted one of RDJ's contractual appearances in the post-credit scene they should have incorporated him into the story.

On a related note, my independently-funded Ultraforce stop-motion animated movie, with screenplay by DarkSovereignty, will also be released on May 6, 2016, across the world (Burma, Monaco and Cuba).

Sorry mods, for the chaos that will ensue between fans of the three equally-popular superhero franchises. But I had to do it, I smell blood in the water!

I agree with this. Though I disagree with your lack of faith in TGOTG I think Marvel has a large enough general audience fan base now that they'll all go to see Guardians, especially because its supposed to start tying in all the next round of Marvel movies and the giant Age of Ultron release. That alone will put people in the seats.

Do you expect anything that's not iron man or avengers to compete that well with a movie featuring batman and superman together?

It isn't Nolan's Batman and MoS barely did better than Thor TDW, and TDW came out in November!

I think the Marvel Studios brand name really is garnering serious credibility with the public, even their worse movies are merely disappointing as opposed to ridiculously bad like Elektra or Ghost Rider.

Like I said, if Guardians does well it will be a huge statement and an even bigger testament to the power of the Marvel Studios brand.

The only movie ever to cross $500 million worldwide in August was the Sixth Sense.

Nick... I come to the Community section to GET AWAY from this sort of madness. Why? Just... WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!?

I'm guessing that's based on the rumoured Thanos connection to the plot of Guardians? In any case the MCU is really snowballing, the only iffy thing has been AoS and even that has greatly improved, once it becomes the show it wants to be it'll grow the brand even more.

And this 2016 release will be in the aftermath of of AoU.
If a Thor movie can almost clear $700 million after the Avengers I'm willing to bet numbers will be even stronger after a movie that just might blow Avengers out of the water.

Looks forward to the fanboy wars.

I can't understand why fans need be divisive over Marvel and DC.
I want DC to have a DC CU that can rival the MCU in terms of awesome.

The only things I get up in arms about is Fox ownership of the Fantastic Four.

haha sorry. I never leave the Community section so it's a breath of fresh air to me
