So, I wonder why Marvel hasn't jumped in on this? Seems like a missed opportunity so far...they have a lot of great franchises they could put out in live-action tv shows.

Also makes me wonder if they could do a Spider-Man tv show...isn't the license by Sony only for movies?

Wasn't MUTANT X(?) a Marvel tv series back in the 90s? If I recall, Banshee was on a few episodes.

Mutant X had nothing to do with any character in the Marvel Universe. Banshee was on the Generation X tv movie on FOX back in the late 90's.

Marvel and new Line Cinema tried a Blade tv series that last all of 1 season. Certain characters would work great in a live action tv series. Marvel Studios needs to concentrate on their movies and not worry about mediocre tv shows. Hell, they haven't been able to get a decent animated series going since the 90's X-Men and Spider-Man cartoons went off the air.

I thought that I was close. I remember seeing Banshee being on something "X". :hehe:

I disagree. X-men Evolution? Spectacular Spider-man???

Black Panther is coming on BET soon I believe. In January Wolverine and the X-Men are coming on as well.

i would love to see black panther in england. getting a bit fed up of wolverine, need something new. Daredevil, that would be good, make dark and gritty.

Spider-Man and X-Men: First Class would make exceptional television...
So would Runaways, for that matter.

I actually forgot about X-Men Evolution which was pretty good. I've seen one episode of Spectacular Spider-Man and I hate the animation, but the story I was watching was pretty good. I still don't think they compare though to the 90's Spider-Man and X-Men.

For great X-Men animation you have got to see Pryde of the X-Men. The story was very weak, but the animation was amazing.

A Punisher series would be easily doable and great to watch. Or a series based on SHIELD could be pretty cool.

I still think a life-action Spidey show would work. They have the special effects to do it. Same with a good X-Men tv series.

Runaways would be perfect for the CW, except it's mostly owned by Warner Bros. :(

Neither of these series would work because while yes the do have the effects, the effects costs way too much for a TV show. That's the problem with most Marvel heroes you'd try to put on TV, the budget would be too big. So, you'd have to cut down on the superheroing, which would make it suck, like Smallville.

i like the idea of sheild. a nick fury show, be a bit 'james bond' about it.

Another simple-ass series to do is Marvel's Dazzler. Think of that as a grown-up version of Hannah Montana, or a live-action version of Jem, even though Alison came before Jerrica.

I don't think even I would watch a Dazzler series, and I try to watch pretty much everything comics-related at least once.

What are the numbers? Right now, Heroes is doing 4 Million an ep...

And honestly, First Class isn't that powers heavy, depending on how you do it. I understand that that effects are expensive, but too expensive for television?

I'm not so sure now...

And assuming that you do have to 'cut down on the superheroing' I'm not sure that's what makes Smallville suck... I could have sworn it was the bad dialogue, hamstringed dragging premise, formulaic action and phoned-in performances.

I don't know whether to cower in fear or applaud...

Pretty much. It'd have to be Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane.

Or, as JQ prefers, Spider-Man Forgets He Loves Mary Jane. (BOFFO!!) :D

I find it hilarious that Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane is still being published after OMD.

Much like Heroes problem.. $$$ Special effects cost big $$ so that limits what you can do for a super hero tv show.

A show that would be great is a Deadpool tv show, but.. that MIGHT be kind of violent for tv :cwink: Unless it was one of those channels where that get away with lots of violence, HBO or Showtime which has shows like Dexter.

Marvel showed the first 3 episodes of 'Wolverine and the X-Men' at SDCC...looks pretty decent....I have little hope for Black Panther, the big mistake is putting it on BET

Heroes seems to do 5-15 special effects shots per eppy. That's definitely enough for Xavier's Institute, and probably enough for Peter Parker: Spider-Man.

What about these shows is so expensive beyond what Heroes, or even Smallville, is already doing?

And what the heck is wrong with Spider-Man loves Mary Jane... especially if it were centered on Peter Parker instead? How is that not a good show?

Wolverine and the X-Men really is pretty good once you make your peace with the fact that it is 100% a Wolverine show and not really an X-Men show at all. The other X-Men are bit players who exist solely to support Wolverine. Although, kudos to the writers for making Beast the closest thing to an actual co-star in the show--couldn't have picked a better X-Man for it, as far as I'm concerned.

'Heroes' has tricked the general tv audience into watching Nerd TV....Smallville took a different approach by wrapping it in a soap opera....Blade failed because it just plain sucked (no pun intended)
