There have been a lot of bad things happenning in the Marvel Universe.

A. Spider-Man's life since OMD has gotten so bad, it got to the point where Otto Octavius is now in possession of his body.
B. Ever since Cyclops and Emma Frost's psychic affair, things have been crapping for the X-Men to the point where Cyclops is succeeding where Magneto failed.
C. After the Civil War, a lot of personal relationships have either been on the rocks or completely broken.

Tell me, if you made your own Marvel Universe, how would you do it?

I don't agree with that assessment of Spider-Man at all. It sounds like the opinion of someone that doesn't even read the books.

Maybe you're right. I just don't like OMD that's all.

Do you have any ideas for your own MU?

In my Marvel Universe there would be a rift between X-Men and the rest of the MU. In other words, retelling every story from the start but with all mutants and X-Men characters in one universe. And all other Marvel characters in their own separate universe.

Are there any character from other media, like cartoons, movies, tv shows, that don't exist in the comics but should?

Hmm...

Well as far as the MCU goes, Phil Coulson is in the comics now. Erik Selvig would be a decent addition to the comics.

In Spectacular Spider-Man I really liked when the Enforcers (Ox, Big Montana and Fancy Dan) become the New Enforcers (Ox, Shocker and Ricochet).

X-23 and Spyke translated well from X-Men Evolution too.

The Spyke from the comics wasn't Evan Daniels. And he wasn't even as prominent as X-23.

Anyways, I always felt that Det. Terri Liee from the 90s Spider-Man cartoons would make a great addition to Earth-616.

After George Stacy's death, she succeded him and became the new captain of his precient. She and Spidey could've had a working relationship, similar to that of Batman & Commissoner Gordon.

What do you think?

Why?

Anyway, for me, wether it's jumping forward in the timeline for all the books or just doing one book set in a possible future, I'd love to see a team book about a 40 year old Spider-Man, married to Mary Jane with two or three teenage kids, as the leader of a future version of The Avengers made up of former members of the Young Avengers and The Runaways, with Black Cat as his second-in-command. I'm thinking Nico, Molly, Victor Mancha, Ms. America (now Captain America), a grown up Kid Loki, and Speed for the younger members.

Exactly. This is what the thread is about: how would you make things different?

I'm sorry. I'm kind of trained to use topics like this to start a discussion.

But I don't mind elaborating.

When it comes to separating MU from the XU (or X-Verse), things would progress mostly the same. Ororo and T'Challa would focus on their other respective love interests. Wolverine would still have been in WW2 but if there was a "Captain Rogers" it wasn't a superhero. Certain events (Civil War, Age of Apocalypse) would only happen in one as opposed to both. As for shared characters/locales:

MU
Franklin Richards - No longer a mutant but gains his powers from his parent's DNA.
Namor - No longer a mutant but gains his powers from his unique human/Atlantean parentage.

XU
Shi'ar/Lilandra - more important to the Phoenix Force and as Professor X's love interest.
Savage Land

The Brood and Pietro/Wanda are the ones that are tougher for me to decide. But they could both go either way. Or perhaps both ways.

Much in the same way DC and Marvel are rich enough universes to exist on their own, I feel MU and XU would be perfectly stable and self-sustained enough to exist exclusively as well. Plenty of characters in each to make for hundreds to thousands of stories.

I'd undo OMD first and foremost, as it's completely ruined Spider-Man, though I'd keep some of the stories that's come since then. Then I'd go back and change it so that Emma died instead of Jean, Cyclops and Jean stayed together, and the X-Men continued on as a family, not as a broken unit. As much as I liked Morrison's run, I blame him for taking the X-Men from a heroic family to a heartless military operation. He didn't do all that but he got the boat started.

Then starting right around that time period, I'd start setting Marvel up as a truly aging world. Heroes get older, legacies matter, people have kids and retire, etc. It's not ideal for all readers but I'd LOVE to see that happen.

Superior Spider-Man has a place in my MU, only different:

He is one of the Jackal's Spider clones, named Otto Octavius II, created upon request of Doctor Octopus, saying he desired a Spider-Man who was more "superior" than the original.

I would making the restablishment of continuity a prime iniative (no more conflicting stories, one character in two places, etc.). After that, I'd issue a ban on all pointless death and resurecctions in the MCU - the death of a character would actually mean something and last for years (or indefinitely), not months. Finally, I would simplfy and diversify the titles offered- 1 or 2 Avengers titles, X-Men titles, solo titles, etc. and focus on smaller, more niche properties such as Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, Black Widow, etc. In essence, there would be many more reading options and less overlap and overbranding of books. Oh, and no more pointless renumberings - we should be on New Avengers #106, not #8!

I've thought about this quite a lot actually!

I agree with all of that. I'd create stipulations on the amount of books a character can be in. A character can be on 1 team book and 1 solo book... and that's it. A team book is the entire team. No more 5 Avenger books or 7 X-Men books. Have a set team of X-Men then the others can form other X-Books (X-Force, Excalibur, that sort of thing but new). Same with the Avengers.

Also, I'd put an in-house rule into play. No more than 2 deaths a year (meaning A, B, and C list characters). So if someone's going to pitch a death scene, it better be good and really mean something. If it isn't, it's rejected. Be more creative. Another in-house rule would be that if you kill a character, they stay dead for a minimum of 5 years, so make sure you WANT them dead.

We're on the EXACT same page here! :woot:

Oh, and less events too!

Speaking of character deaths, I have some ideas on how to re-write the Dark Phoenix Saga so that Jean Grey doesn't have to die at the end.

-There are TWO Phoenix Forces: the White Phoenix of the Crown and the Dark Phoenix.
-Jean Grey: White Phoenix; Madelyne Pryor: Dark Phoenix. NOTE: Despite hosting the White Phoenix of the Crown, Jean Grey's costume is green.
-All the atrocities Jean committed in the comics (i.e. the annihilation of the D'Bari) were done by Madelyne.
-During Jean's second battle with Pryor, she dies, but was revealed to have been in a coma that allowed the White Phoenix to begin the process of resurrection.
-After being brought back from the dead, Jean confronts Madelyne in the final battle, which resulted in Madelyne no longer hosting the Dark Phoenix. It claimed Pryor "was not worthy of such power".
-Madelyne is then taken into custody of the Shi'ar Empire, who has charged her with crimes against the galaxy.

What do you think?
