Marvel's Atlanteans on the surface

After reading the latest Wolverine I have to ask. Since when could normal (blue) Atlanteans breathe on the surface? Is it because of those glowing lines they wear?

They can breath on the surface, but they only last about an hour before they dry up and die.

Plus they were taking some sort of shot that may have helped them breath oxygen. I dunno, maybe it just changed their pigments.

It's not a breathing problem. It's a hydration problem. Like whales and frogs, they can breath air, but they need water or they'll die from lack of hydration.

I'm pretty sure that Atlanteans have gills. It's kind of like holding your breath. But it kind of looked to me that they were altered, which isn't beyond Atlantean tech.

I'm pretty sure that was only Namor, since whenever you see Atlanteans entering Namor's air rooms underwater, they don water helmets, knowing full well they won't be there for even fifteen minutes in that room as Namor likes to be left alone.

I still say Atlanteans haven't shown amphibious ability on some level aside from the current Wolverine issue, and it could easily be said they were modified using Atlantean tech.

Yes, they have. The fact that Namor's mother stood on the deck of a ship, talked with his father, and had sex with him shows that they can breath in an oxygen environment. They just only last a few hours outside of water.

Back on topic. I really want to know where theyre going with this. As of now the government hasnt been messing with Atlantis, but it seems a lot of movement is going on. Perhaps an invasion. The only reason I can see Namor mounting an invasion is because of Namorita, its a bit irrational, but were talking about Namor here.

Would Namor risk the lives of his citizens over a personal vendetta? I mean, Atlantians are superhuman compared to us, but we've got nukes.

Thats the thing though, its clear moves are being made, intel is being gathered, sleeper agents are being re-awakened, for what exactly? We dont know, at this point and time I see absolutely no reaso for an invasion, but there might be somehting else to it. Payback against Tony for those Illuminati meetings aka The Hulk. Helping the Anti-Regs? We'll have to see.

Maybe Namor's going to do to the U.S. what Aquaman did to Japan when they refused to illegalize whaling. Ban it's citizens from entering Atlantian territory and Airspace (which is the entire ocean and all international airways).
