Marvel's losing its edge and DC's getting its back

Things have only changed a little. Marvel still has a large output. The only thing thats really changed is that DC is attempting to make GL

Ditto. Having their own studio made a huge difference. Can't wait 'til they get X-Men back from Fox. Then I can support the X-Movies again.
It's funny reading all these old posts knowing how things would change in just a few short years.
Yep. Now an Avengers movie is in the works. When this thread started, people thought it would never happen

I was thinking the same thing as I read the first page.

The bad ones outweigh the good ones Superman the Movie, Superman II, Batman and Batman Returns. But this may change with Batman Begins and Superman Returns and may spark Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern, and Aquaman all leading up to a JLA movie, something Marvel can never do with their Avengers
Yes, a live action Avengers movie will never, ever happen
To add to this - Didn't Arad also say something about an Avengers movie being an estimated cost of 500+ million? I don't see how or why it'd cost that much, but if that's a legitamate figure, then yes; the Avengers will never have a live-action movie.

Don't want to mock anyone because I'm certainly not any better at predicting anything. Those posts make me hope I didn't make any big predictions that can haunt me. :)

I daresay any films not called Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men (BARELY makes this list), and Hellboy (makes this list surprisingly) are given an extremely sophomoric approach by the filmmakers. You may like Iron Man, Hulk, Daredevil, etc... but there's no denying that every superhero who isn't an A-lister gets the tongue-in-cheek treatment. Just watch that first Green Lantern trailer if you don't believe me. Yeah, the one where HAL JORDAN is acting like Ryan Reynolds and not visa-versa. Like the films or not, the icons get the respectful treatment. You may think Superman Returns was boring or Bale's acting as Batman is idiotic (strong arguments can be made for both), but they are both still professionally made, well-thought out FILMS. The Hulks, Fantastic Fours, and GL's are the popcorn flicks. The filler designed to hold us over in between the big guns.

If it seems DC is making headway, it's probably just because they release 1 film to Marvel's 12... and they have the majority of the icons.

^ Larry has a point, a very good point, but loads of people wont agree with you. Most of the films you listed are the only comic movies that feel like more than just a comic flick.

I don't think I could disagree more with both of you. I have yet to see the comic/superhero film that 'feels more than a comic flick'. I don't think it's possible. The premise is simply too absurd. And there ain't nothing wrong with just being a comic flick, IMO. As long as it's good. Hell, I'd rank many above a whole bunch of pretentious BS oscar winners any day.

Ok, all superhero films are now out for the summer. Thread is still funny.

Sadly, after all this time DC remains a one-trick pony. I may have liked Green Lantern but it's not a top tier movie in the long run. Fact is, without Batman, DC has got nothing.

We'll see how Man of Steel does. It'll also be interesting to see what will become of the Batman franchise after Nolan leaves the director's chair.

I loved the first 4 pages of this topic, so many great giggles and smiles. :P

while marvel seems to be simultaneously releasing smaller comic book heros, while having one huge franchise in spiderman, dc is set two have two huge franchies-batman and superman-going at the same time. plus, wonder woman and the flash are in the works, adding to their smaller films. marvel tried to have two in hulk as the second, but they failed. Batman looks to be huge and superman is a gaurenteed mega hit.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

and High Voltage is just another Marvel moron who cant accept the fact that DC's is coming back and marvel's no longer the only toddler on the playground

They can do this is in 2005?

Anyway High Voltage is somewhat right.

After Avengers, Marvel is going to be weak, and that's going to be DC's chance to strike.

Unfortunately, they won't, so, oh well.

It bothers me more than a little that the phrase "just a comic book movie" exists.

If a movie isn't deadly serious and examining pseudo-intellectual topics, it's worthless. No one is allowed to have fun without a group of elitists looking down their noses at it.

Same thing happened to rock and roll music. The term "rock and roll" actually meant "having sex"....but somehow the elitists got their hands on the genre and suddenly you had to be angry/sad about something or be labeled "fluff". Rock and roll (Elvis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis) turned into "rock". Now the only way to write something about having a good time is in the hip-hop genre. Critics leave you alone there. (no surprise kids flocked to the one genre that was still partying)

No wonder so many people are depressed. Fun=sin

Strike with what exactly? The dozens of DC movies that aren't being made?

The problem with Marvel is that the movie industry has made them rather arrogant. It made Marvel very money hungry, the quality in their comics has been affected by this arrogance because of it. Their movies are starting to see Marvel's money hunger, Blade Trinity and Elektra show this. Marvel should concentrate on their comics and make movies of Captain America, Thor, Dr. Strange, Iron Man, Black Panther and Silver Surfer instead of sequels, Ant-Man, Man-Thing, and Mort the Dead Teenager

DC has put some great quality in their comics but because they are owned by WB, the movies have been rather crappy because they have no say in the movies. Superman III, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, Supergirl, Steel, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, and Catwoman are prime examples of crappy DC movies.

Haha, man this was great to read! :yay:

If Marvel can finally launch that elusive franchise with a leading woman DC are going to look even more worthless
