Hope I'm not making a useless or already been done thread but I just saw this over at Marvel.com and oh my god... it looks awful.

http://marvel.com/news/moviestories.2966.First_Look~colon~_Next_Avengers_Animated_Movie

Marvel? WTF? I know you wanna appeal to kids but at no age would I have ever wanted to see this. What's wrong with the original Avengers? Or hell even the Young Avengers give them a cartoon? Is this crap based on something? I've only seen bits and pieces of the Ultimate Avengers movies on Toonami and they seemed okay. But what is this? It's confusing and I just don't understand why Marvel made this movie when they have so much else they could work with.

Thoughts?

I was disappointed that when Marvel/Lions Gate finally decides to make an Avengers cartoon based on 616 with 616 designs and whatnot, they only do so in order for a vehicle to launch Avengers Babies.

Shame. The actual Avengers have been long overdue for a real cartoon series. Oh, well.

It looks better than some of us thought, but it is not merely dripping with wasted potential, the entire foundation is on wasted potential.

Lovely artwork, though.

But, I mean, out of all the countless Avengers sagas to animate with that sort of design work and whatnot, and they choose...none. And the next slate of M/LG films simply looks slated to capitlize on the upcoming movie franchises HULK and THOR. Sigh.

The DC/WB domination of the small screen is all but assured. Aside for SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN, which is awesome.

The trailer for the film was looking good...until the kids dressed in the costumes showed up. IDK what to think. Does anyone really want to see this? They should've just made a traditional Avengers film, but I guess I'll hold judgement till release.

Couldn't have said it better myself Dread, this whole movie is a waste. It is just "Avenger Babies" and I don't think little kids will care for this either. When I was little you know who I wanted to GROW UP and be? Captain America, I didn't dream of being him at that age. DC does seem to know what they're doing when it comes to small screen, I never really cared for DC other than Batman but I can acknowledge that their animated films look pretty cool. You know why they're cool? They're based off good material, not this Muppet babies rip off. Thank God for Spectacular Spider-Man!

the a1ant, I usually reserve judgment for after as well but I don't think this movie deserves it. It's just a terrible premise. Avengers meets Muppet babies, I really don't know what they were thinking on this one.

Hate to tell you, but yeah this is old. The first trailer was shown with the Doctor Strange DVD back in August of 2007.

Still. This is so crap. I can't believe DC was able to get out Superman: Doomsday, Justice League: The New Frontier, and Batman: Gotham Knight in the time it's taken for Marvel to get this out. Talk about a waste of time over nothing.

Plus, the title is GOD awful. I don't understand how they went from Teen Avengers, to Avengers Reborn, and then finally Next Avengers. WHAT?? That just sounds weird and makes no sense.

arts slick but the concept seems to gimmicky.

i think when kids see this they'll think what happened to all those cool guys that did all that cool stuff before these kids became what they are (at least i hope so)

Isn't there already a "Avengers Next" team too? Within Spider-Girl's universe? That makes this title even weaker? Didn't know this was shown with Dr. Strange. Was that any good?

This looks ******ed. I thought it was going to be based on Young Avengers, but this, they could have done something better with it.

Why, oh why couldn't they just make a sraight up, serious film featuring the 616 Avengers vs. Ultron instead of this crap?

I think teen titans was still going on when they came up with the idea, and that show was a hit. I believe they wanted to catch some of the thunder. Sadly yet again it looks like Marvel has yet again failed in the dtv department. Even though Dr. Strange was a look in the right direction. To bad they had to take a detore.

Yeah, you're probably right but, man, Marvel missed a golden opportunity with a DTV featuring Ultron fighting the Avengers. Sadly, with perhaps one of the greatest Avengers' rosters ever, except the exclusion of the Scarlet Witch..

This looks boring, even by a child's standards. Quick poll: Anyone else remember the Avengers show that was on Fox? Remember how that crumpled from all of the changes to the canon? I forsee the same happening here.

Let's hope the people who produce Marvel's animated 'movies' are not in any way connected with the live-action ones. Because every one - the two Avengers movies, Iron Man, Dr Strange - has been shallow and lazy.

That is why I said this flick doesn't simply drip with lost potential, but is built on a foundation of lost potential.

I mean, seriously, WB cranked out a fresh new DVD about their Justice League, and made sure to keep it set in the 50's like the original stories.

It is like...the Marvel movies tend to be more faithful to the comics than DC's, but when it comes to animation these last few years, aside for Spectacular Spider-Man...Marvel's garbage. I mean, FF:WGH basically turned the Four into a sitcom and Dr. Doom into Skeletor (getting thwarted every week).

Still, that artwork was great. But why not just animate an Avengers film? Ultron Unleashed, or whatever that Perez/Busiek story was. Or any one of the dozens of great sagas. No, they pick Avengers Babies, to captilize on the TEEN TITANS...whose show was only canceled TWO YEARS AGO! Way to stay current.

Plus, well...most kids don't like seeing kids mixed with their heroes, if that makes any sense. When I was a kid, often the worst episodes of a superhero show were the obligatory ones where a kid had to save the day. Y'know, "I'VE GOT BATMAN IN MY BASEMENT" or "ATTACK OF THE OCTOBOT", that sort of thing. Zach the 5th Turtle from Ninja Turtles? LAME! I liked watching the heroes, seeing them save the day.

But the problem is kids shows are often run by people who seem to have forgotten childhood, and all they think to do is pander.

When is Marvel going to get their collective heads out of their collective arses. A 616 Avengers animated film is what the fans want, but instead we get stuck with baby avengers:cmad:

The point is that this is for kids, not fans (though, like you, I don't see why kids wouldn't like a straight Avengers film).

Kids would prefer 'Young Avengers' over this, imo. But we'll see...

Kids would prefer just "Avengers" over this. You don't have to turn your characters into toddlers for kids to like it, in fact I'd imagine it would be the other way around, that they would prefer their heroes be adults.

I kind of question whether this will even do well at all, if it was a television show I could admit that it would do well, but I don't know how many kids would specifically single this DTV out for their parents to buy when there are a lot of other, more high profile things they could get instead. On top of that most of the adult fans that bought their other DTV movies will likely skip out on this, so where's the market?

Marvel could take some lessons from DC when it comes to making animated films...Their latest one about the JLA was fantastic, I would love to see an Avengers film similar to that.

That comic would have a bunch of adaptation problems; it's positively awash in continuity minutiae that doesn't exist in any film, and it has prominent gay characters.
