More thoughts:
- The cover to October's USM features what appears to be Ultimate Hellcat. I haven't read this title in a while and still won't, but who wants to take bets that Hellcat will defeat the main arc's antagonist (in this case, Norman Osborn, very original) and that USM himself will continue his streak as a helpless, useless, spineless, clueless putz who can't defeat his own enemies anymore without some sort of aid, again and again and again. He may as well join the Ultimates early; as their mascot. I am SO glad I read INVINCIBLE now so I have a REAL comic series starring a bold young hero in a wacky world.
- Carey seems to be revisiting some of the Commie experiments from Ultimate Nightmare in UFF. Seems interesting. By default, it's been the best Ultimate ongoing for me (ULTIMATE POWER is a mini, which finally seems to be ending in October).
- Every issue of Ultimate X-Men that Paquette draws is one issue less with terrible art. There is hope for this arc yet. It still is a shell of the book it was some 3 years ago.
- The new Quasar & Moondragon vs. a space-faring Super-Adaptoid? Methinks Gage watched too much JUSTICE LEAGUE (their version of AMAZO was a thinly veiled clone of the Adaptoid, and he went to space), but it still looks interesting, and it is good to see this classic Avengers foe revisited. STARLORD looks cool, coo.
- NOVA #7 at least confirms that
- Dr. Doom in FF? Very original. Let's hope it proves more interesting than trying for Thor's hammer, failing, and then sitting on his rear doing absolutely nothing for a year and a half.
- IMMORTAL IRON FIST #10 looks bad-ass, from cover to solicitation.
- PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL is having a WWH tie-in, just as the event is reaching a conclusion. Is this a MOON KNIGHT repeat fiasco? In any case, Fraction will make it darkly amusing.
- AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #7 also looks hot; the Vulturians? Talk about amping up obscure villains. They last showed up in the first few issues of WEB OF SPIDER-MAN (the Vulture didn't take kindly to them ripping off his motif). Good to see them making a come back. Issue looks interesting, as always. It doesn't change your view of the Initiative as something that isn't hostile, but it at least is always a solid read, starring mostly new characters.
- Good to see the Mandarin's kid return in a comic, and apparently he does, in MODOK'S 11.
- Hulk finally appears in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. Note that Thor appeared first.
- The X-event of 2007 gets underway, and lord knows this line needs some attention, after being left to rot for a year.
