Mass Effect 2

Dude, I'd replay the game again. I wouldn't want to play Mass Effect 3 without Garrus.

Yeah I plan on playing it again. Maybe another few times honestly.

Maybe it's just the idealist in me, but doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of the game?

I could only justify myself playing through the game once, letting my original actions actually stick. It makes each moment and decision that much more significant because I know I can't go back and fix it.

Well, I mean, I guess that is one way of looking at it, but for games like this, half of the fun is going back and doing things differently just to see how reactions are altered

True.

I guess I just like the drama of knowing that if I **** up and get someone killed, they're gone. No replay. No restart. No do over.

Though that has lead to some pretty restless nights. :csad:

I'm kind of on Cmill's side. Probably the thing I like best in games like Mass Effect and Fallout is making decisions and letting the chips fall where they may.

I've actually successfully (as in no casualties) held the line with loyal Grunt/disloyal Zaeed while bringing Garrus with me to fight the boss.

I sent Mordin back with the crew but other than that it seems one loyal tank is good enough for the most part.

Zaeed's a tough son of a b****. I was intentionally trying to get him killed off during one playthrough and the bastard just would not die until I set him up with a task that he was totally unsuited for.

Anyway, I am definitely in the camp that likes going back and exploring other options. That said, my first playthrough is always off-the-cuff. I let myself experience the game without any knowledge of what's coming for one playthrough, and then I start up a new game or three and start experimenting.

I can see what Cmill is talking about...because I am trying to just keep it at one playthrough...but I can't bare in mind the fact that my favorite character, Thane, died at the end. I want to know where his journey would end up. Ahh, the wait for ME3 :(

If I went by my first playthrough Wrex/Mordin would be dead.

That is NOT acceptable. :cmad:

Yep. That's what I do--though, really, I'm too much of a completionist to ever let anyone die.

If I went by my first playthrough, nobody would be dead.

But even so, I'm weaving a particular story with the character, so it's a matter of getting every choice just right for her, which involves seeing both sides of the story and deciding which is the way to go.

Is it just me or do the Mass Effect 1 characters just seem more likeable than the Mass Effect 2 characters?

It's just you. Tali irritates me in both games and Mordin is my favorite character now. :)

I respect playing the whole thing on one playthrough, but in the 2nd one, I did do everyone's Loyalty mission, I did upgrade the whole ship and Mordin still died. He was just on the other team while I took Garrus and Wrex to fight the Human Reaper. And I think that was more of a glitch.

Garrus and Grunt are two of the strongest defenders on the line and Mordin is by far the weakest. Probably just a matter of weakening your line too much to defend Mordin. I've heard he can die even if he's loyal, which is why some guides recommend sending him back with the crew survivors. Just take him out of the picture beforehand, plus anyone who's loyal is guaranteed to survive taking the crew back.

I think when I do that with my Insanity playthrough, I'll send Mordrin back. I did pretty much everything as a Paragon and a Renegade in that game and I'm waiting for as much DLC to play again. That playthrough is what I'm going to base my save for Mass Effect 3 on.

I don't know which one I'll go with for ME 3. Probably at least one Paragon one and one Renegade one. Then I'll try out at least 2 new characters for it, male and female.

I did Jack's loyal mission and sent her back with the crew but she died

Huh. I guess it's not necessarily guaranteed, then. Did you lose her loyalty at some point? Like by siding with Miranda in their argument?

No one dies if a loyal Grunt and Garrus hold the line. Period.

My first playthrough, I sent Jacob back with the crew, figuring that if choice mattered there, a trained soldier would be able to get the job done. Took Jack and, I dunno, Thane, since I usually take him to the final boss since it's an assault team. Regardless, that means Mordin was there at the defense line, and he was unscathed.

So was an unloyal Legion, for that matter. No one croaked.

Mordin more than makes up for Wrex, Garrus/Tali were made even more awesome-er in 2 (and along with Mordin/Legion are by far my top characters in the series thus far) while Ash was simply okay and Liara/Kaiden remain two of the worst party members Bioware have done so... no?

I've played it twice on bad guy and still no one in my team has died! I even lost loyalty with some of them and they lived! lol I was gutted.

Mordin, Grunt, Garrus, Wrex, and Kasumi are my favorite companions from the series so far. I love how ME 2 expanded the diversity of the cast so much. You really have a group of people from all walks of life, which gives the loyalty missions a really nice variety. I especially loved how Kasumi's loyalty mission just drops a heist movie plot in the middle of the Mass Effect universe--and it actually works! :hehe:

Yeah, some people didn't like it, but I thought Kasumi's mission was awesome.
