Mass Effect 2

I'm with Benstamania. Microsoft could have absolutely no exclusives and I'd still use it as my "main" console. I've encountered far too many problems on the PS3 to use it for multi-platform games.

I got a couple of duds this gen it seems to me. My PS3 messed up once (and had problems before that), and my 360 gets this error codes all the time (not the big three ring one, a one ring that's not covered under warranty). I just alternate between the two pieces of ****.

Haha, poor Tron. My PS3 crashes on me and has a spotty internet connection at the very best of times, and I've already had to replace my 360 once. My 360 just started freezing on me in the middle of Red Dead Redemption too. So yeah, I get the impression both consoles can be a bit shoddy too.

I've played Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 and right now I feel I'm done with my PS3 as there's no games I currently want and I haven't seen anything in the future that I want.

I'm looking to October and Force Unleashed 2 and Fallout Vegas, I want for my 360 and I'm looking forward to Fable 3 and Gears of War 3.

I only have a a PS3 so I don't have to worry about that problem.:woot: When I eventually get a 360 I'll have to catch up on the Fable games, the ME games, and the Condemned games.

I'm too lazy to look at the earlier pages of this thread so please don't flame me, but is ME2 coming to PS3 still as likely as the Governatah becoming president in 2012?

Nope, actually this thread has been aflame at the fact that it was confirmed that ME2 is, in fact, going to the PS3. It's been confirmed and everything

Thanks, still thought that was fanboy delusion. I might wait til I have the money for a 360 and both ME games, I want to import my save of my first ME run and then play ME2. The half decade or more it'll take for that to happen will suck, cuz I'm really looking forward to the 2nd game. I watched every single video on gametrailers/ign, which must've added up to be a score.

I just can't pass on playing a game, and then having my decisions truly affect the sequel, that just blows my mind.:woot:

In an attempt to get this away from "LOL SYSTEMS SUX":

A question, to each of you thread-frequenters:

(Also, a multi-tiered continual colon frenzy):

What was the coolest part of Mass Effect 2?

It's hard to narrow it down. They improved so much on the first game that I have to say the coolest part and the thing that sets this game apart from others is the continued storyline using an existing character from the first game.

But in terms of actual gameplay, I like the whole ability to do paragon/renegade choices in the middle of cutscenes.

I'm not one of the fans that complain the lack of the inventory, the now easy points system that you can improve your powers etc so that it doesn't feel like a real RPG. Sure I was a bit skeptic at first, but in the end is still a outstanding game with good story with fun gameplay, they really have improve on the good stuff and even a casual gamer like my little brother can enjoy it. The things I really like are the continuing story and the overall cinematic approach to it and the interrupt system and that the each class feels unique with their powers.

I've never figured out how people say it doesn't feel like a real RPG. Heck, the only way it's different from ME1 in the RPG department is the lack of a ridiculous amount of inventory, the majority of which was largely useless. And by removing said useless inventory, BioWare proved it's not even necessary in a game.

I agree, the points system and the inventory doesn't make a great game. With those parts gone or change, in the end it feels like a Mass Effect game with the overall core and important elements remains and it's still a excellent game.

Coolest part of Mass Effect 2 in terms of gameplay for me was the ability to so drastically alter the outcome of the final mission.

For the story, the coolest part for me was probably the meeting with Archangel.

Coolest part of the game was the opening with Shepard dying. It really grabs your attention. Or maybe walking into Afterlife for the first time.

As far as Mass Effect 2's "RPGness" is concerned, I think it feels like the best RPG I've ever played. Bioware made some really smart decisions that proved to me that RPGs are about so much more than inventory, or stats, or dice rolls.

Agreed, I love bringing everyone back alive.:woot:

I managed to do that my first time. The next couple times I tried to strategically kill off certain members. I think at some point--maybe close to Mass Effect 3's release--I'll replay it and just try to roleplay a bit more who I think that Shep would like and would actually invest the time in getting to know, only do their loyalty missions, and see who winds up surviving. That's another thing: I like that there's not necessarily a direct correlation between loyalty and survival.

Trailer for "Lair of the Shadow Broker". Looks like a very action-packed DLC and we get to fly those Illium cars? Awesome!

I don't say I love too many things. But I LOVE this game.

I fully agree with the second part. In response to your first part, while it's an amazing moment, I still think BioWare essentially did a better job presenting that scene/concept (Shepard dying) with their trailer than they did with the game. The game is more complete, of course. Or, hell, maybe I'm just partial to the music in the trailer, mixed with Martin Sheen's voice. :woot: (I'm not disagreeing with you. I asked a fully subjective question. I'm just commenting.)

For me, I think it comes down to the entirety of the suicide mission, specifically as a cinematic experience - even during gameplay - from the minute you cross the Omega 4 Relay.

I was going to post the video for the trailer, but I got beaten to it. It looks great - as does the trailer for Witch Hunt.

I would have liked to see some proof in the trailer that they got Keener and Sroka back to voice Garrus and Tali. I'm going to be seriously bummed if they didn't - primarily because of the first teaser screenshots, and one of them having Garrus and Tali along with Shepard and Liara.

Miranda should have some lines, too, given that they wrote Liara as dealing with her and TIM during the events of the comic.

So does Lair of the Shadow Broker take place after the game?

I believe it's supposed to be the first part of "Mass Effect 2.5," as Casey Hudson called it, yes.
