Mass Effect 2

Personally, I haven't bought a PS3 game in months. I always opt to purchasing multiple system games on the 360. Star Wars Unleashed 2 and Fallout: New Vegas I'm getting on 360. In PS3 news, I did buy Kick Ass and Batman: Under the Red Hood. Yes, that's essentially what I've been using my PS3 for since Uncharted 2.

I bought Dragon Age for PS3 and my horrible experience with literally anything involving the internet on that game is what's convinced me to switch back to 360 for most, if not all, multi-platform releases. $50 per year for Live is nothing if it means not having to deal with the PS3's connectivity issues. I just bought Red Dead Redemption and Transformers: War for Cybertron on the 360 last week.

Microsoft fails so badly. *looks at my 360 & sobs*

Haha how? You'll still be able to play Mass Effect 2 on your 360. Dont let the PS3 fanboy nuts fill your head with any doomsday talk, haha.

MS has horrible 1st party support due to their lack of 1st party studios and franchises. They really dont have many so exclusives on their end is weak. They focused on using their money to drop millions getting 3rd party exclusives early on, while Sony instead chose to pour their money into their own studios and beef up their own IPs. As a result MS had the early advantage but things are turning expecially since many of those 3rd party deals have run out and they are making their way to the PS3, which is more attractive now that its cheaper and has a larger install base

But none of that seems to matter. Sony isnt any closer to overtaking Microsoft than they have been in the the past. MS doesn't have the amount of exclusives that Sony does but the ones they do outsell just about all of Sony's combined. Sony doesn't have anything close to a Halo in terms of units moved. You have to combine Sony's best selling exclusive titles just to meet par with Halo 3. So all the talk of MS having poor first party talent, is damn near moot when one of your first party titles nearly out sells your rivals top 3 exclusives alone.

MS fanboys have nothing to worry about and Sony fanboys have nothing to brag about.

I feel the same way. Iv been playing a lot of PSN lately as i have a few friends who just got on to the PS3 and i honestly hate the PSN. Just sending a message to your friends shouldn't be the hassle that it is compared to Live. The title updates on the PSN can be flat out outrageous. Don't you dare take a month or two off on a game or your will have to sit through a 45 min title update before you can play the damn game.

Yeah, I tend to get games a couple months after they're released to see if they live up to the hype (and also 'cause I usually have to save up a bit), so I get hit with those updates a lot. The worst was when I had to download all of the DLC, though. PSN kept booting me off and giving me connection hiccups and all kinds of crap that made me have to restart the game, go through all of those damned intro movies, and try again over and over. I've never had anything like that happen with Live.

Granted, we could just be part of a small minority who've had such problems, but they've certainly spoiled the PS3 for whatever I can avoid playing on it. I tend to just play exclusives and watch BRs with my PS3 now.

I guess so man. Maybe my PS3 is sitting in some weird pocket of poor connectivity while my 360, half a foot to the right, is in the perfect pocket for connectivity. The only thing i play on my PS3 are the exclusives, granted those exclusives are some of my fav games this generation tho with the Uncharted series being my favorite 2 games of all time.

I don't understand why it's such a big deal that ME 2 went over to the ps3. It's an amazing game and those users deserve to experience it.

One of these days I'm gonna get me a ps3 so I can get down on Uncharted. I wish they would just port one of them to 360

I think its cool that Bioware's selling to a new market but I can't help but feel a bit sorry seeing as PS3 users are only getting 2 and not 1 (probably due to the fact MS published the first one). The connectivity between games was one of the biggest pluses going into the sequel. I wonder if this means they're going to be stuck with the "default" playthrough.

Shenmue II came with a "movie" of the first game to bring people up to speed. Basically all of the cutscenes with little bits of gameplay to fill in the gaps. I don't think it would be a great idea, but it's an option.

Preferably, they could use some fancy machinima with cinematic camera angles and such to fill in for "gameplay" rather than just in-game footage. The ideal solution would be to just port ME1 over to the PS3 with a few enhancements, but it looks like that's not what they're doing.

I would say that Xbots can brag about the few AAA titles they get sell like hotcakes while the SDF can brag about having the higher quality AAA titles.

Console exclusives (outside of Halo, Mario and Uncharted to name a few) are slowly going the way of the Dodo.

That being said....I hope for the PS3 only crowed that the port isn't done sloppy by EA...

I find it odd people have problems with PSN, I never do. I always by my multiplats on PS3, because of one simple thing, I don't want a third X-Box to RROD on me. So I try to turn it on only for true exclusives like Halo Reach.

And Exclusives will still be there, they have to be. Or companies will not be able to get others to want to buy theirs over others. It's just business.

-sighs- Well I have no real reason to continue purchasing for my 360. Mass Effect was the only exclusive that kept me on the Microsoft ship. Bioware was the only reason I stayed on the Microsoft ship, and now that KOTOR is a f'n mmo :/ and Mass Effect is multiplatform, Im a get a PS3 after Mass Effect 3 comes out, cause I still gotta get my Shepard save moved into ME3, but after I play through that a few times, I'm getting a Playstation 3.

More specifically, it's third party exclusives that are going away. Games are too expensive now for a publisher to yoke themselves to one system, unless there's truly no market for their games on the other platforms. First party exclusives are the bread and butter of the consoles right now, but unfortunately Microsoft seems to have caught on too late. Most of their big "exclusive" franchises this generation have been from third or second parties, and they've mostly ended up on all three HD platforms in the long run. They sold Bungie, which tells me that at the time they did not see much future in first party games (especially since they've pretty much let Microsoft Game Studios fall to the wayside this gen). They seem to be focusing more and more on getting temporarily exclusive content for multiplatform games, but in the long run I don't see that working. At the end of the day, if the system has less exclusives then people aren't going to be be as interested, because exclusives are what gives a system it's identity.

Good news for PS3 owners (I own both so it makes no difference to me), bad news for current fans of the franchise who can now look forward to ******** exclusive content wars. By the time the sequel rolls around, it's going to be "Exclusive mission pack only on PS3!" and "Exclusive Weapon pack only on Xbox 360!" I also wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 release of ME2 came with exclusive content itself.

That's the way it goes these days. Choose which store you buy at for your exclusive pre-order content, and choose which console you play on for your exclusive DLC. Gamers who just want the whole experience without having to make compromises based on which console they choose are likely to get screwed when EA inevitably assigns exclusive content to one console or the other--or even to both.

So wait, they're porting the second game but not the first game?

That.....yeah.....that makes no sense.

MS published the first game so I'm guessing they'd need their OK to port ME1.

Microsoft only published it on the 360 though. EA published it on Windows.

Edit. Also, on the official forums a Bioware developer said, "There are a lot of assumptions out there right now, we still have many details on the PS3 version to share with you." or something similar. So interpret that as you wish.

I was also just thinking it would be funny if the "hours of bonus content" they mentioned was actually Mass Effect 1.

If EA wanted to badly enough they could probably find some loophole to jump through to get ME1 on PS3. My guess is that they want to concentrate their efforts on ME2 since that one is newer and more fresh in the public's mind. It'll be a bit disappointing if there's no way to play the first one on PS3 and port over the character file, but it's not exactly a deal breaker. Hopefully they find some way to let the player decide what kind of Shepard they play as when the game starts, instead of getting a preset one.

I don't see how it all really matters in the grand scheme of things.

I don't own a PS3, and I have no real intentions of ever owning a PS3. I only owned my PS2 until it died because of a few classic RPGs I have, but I've never replaced it.

But hey, I'm glad the PS3 crowd who never intended to own a 360 or played it on the PC can now have fun with ME2 and, assumedly, some form of ME1. And, really, it's just better for BioWare. More sales.

The "hours of bonus content" is more then likely just all of the previous bonus content already out. As they all add up quite long. There is plenty of DLC for them to say "hours of bonus content" & besides it is already confirmed that

“We’re making sure there’s a really seamless introduction to the world of Mass Effect, for players that haven’t experienced it before,”

Said by BioWare boss Ray Muzyka. So expect nothing but a long Mass Effect 1 Story Cinematic or something like that

I would love to watch that without having to buy the PS3 version. Just as a refresher for Mass Effect's story, since I tend to forget what happened before by the time there's a new game.
