‘The Wheel Of Time’ Makes Strong Debut As Amazon Prime Video Doubles Down On Genre With ‘Mass Effect’ Adaptation & Prepares To Usher In ‘LOTR’ – Deadline

Between Emmy-nominated comic book adaptationThe Boys’ critical and commercial success, The Wheel Of Time‘s promising debut and the anticipated launch of The Lord of Rings, genre has emerged as a key programming area for the streamer and a continuing development focus.

One of the company’s newest hopefuls in the arena is Mass Effect. Amazon Studios is nearing a deal to develop a series based on the best-selling sci-fi video game franchise from Electronic Arts.

“You will see us continuing to invest in fantasy genre of all kinds, we have a genre-focused team on the ground in Studios who work tirelessly with our creative partners on those slates, and you can look forward to more,” Salke said.

So what do y’all think this will be? Adaptation or original story?

I'd love to see many of the best game series characters in the show, even if the story is different.

If they follow the games and expand on them then it could make for an incredible series, especially after the successful adaptation of The Boys. Arcane also proved that video game properties CAN be successful.

I just hope they give it the proper support and hire good screenwriters/show runners to do the series justice.

The aliens will most likely be cgi unless they get some crazy good practical fx team for anything not an Asari, so if they bring back the voice cast for Wrex, Garrus, and Tali, then it's off to a good start.

I'd like a femshep too.

Yeah me too. I reckon a mass effect tv series would work really well! Hopefully they keep the cast inclusive

The guy who wrote Kin and F9?

Somewhat related, you can also claim the Normandy in No Man's Sky again during the next two weeks. It's a frigate you can send on off-screen missions rather than a ship you can fly, but a pretty cool reward. The Expedition also has some references to the games ofc. Trailer is a bit outdated cuz that's from NMS version 3.3 and we're on 5.25 right now.

Nope, that show is actually good. This was a movie produced by Shawn Levy. I didn't see it myself, but it reviewed horribly.
Ohhhhhh I see. So it just happens to have the same name as the TV show. Totally unrelated too, I guess?

Completely different. You should check out the Kin tv show, though, if you haven't already.

I have seen commercials for it on cable television and it caught my attention coz we got our very own Matt Murdock starring.

I didn't think too much of it at the time, but since you're recommending it, I'll check it out :)

Aiden Gillen (Littlefinger) is also in it, and he's more or less playing a good guy for a change.

I saw him in The wire before I saw him in GoT. he wasn't completely evil there either although he was a politician which we know they all have dark sides

I never got into Mass Effect. Maybe I should try it again. Dragon Age Inquisition is one of my all time favorites and as I understand it, ME is basically like that in space but I wish we were getting a live action Dragon Age series instead. The animated one was fun though.

It's worth it, amazing series...minus the end.

Mass Effect die hards don't want to see Shepard's story, I personally do if its done the way they did TLoU.

If they do the Shepard saga, who would be good casting? I don’t really know the character but I know he/she is beloved by the fans.

I would imagine they would get an unknown.

Or have two and make them siblings.

If they use Shepard for the show, I hope they give them the Colonist origin (best Shepard origin, imo)

That’s the thing with Shepherd as a character. Aside from some small specific details, so much of the character is defined by the player’s actions and dialogue choices they could literally go in any direction and cast just about anyone. They can literally be a 30 something, non-binary bisexual Korean-American, an African-American lesbian trans woman or a cis aroace caucasian man, as long as they don’t betray the character’s core aspects.

Yeah.

Actually if it was me I wouldn’t have a commander shepherd. I would just have the characters refer to an commander shepherd, maybe point at a vague statue, and just have new characters

Henry Cavill would be a good BroShep and Charlize Theron would be a great FemShep.

I know they're hella typecast but it just fits.

Honorable mentions:

Emily Blunt
Jensen Ackles
Karen Gillian
Sebastian Stan

This is gonna sound like it's coming outta left field (and maybe it is), but I always thought Jeremy Meeks looked like Shepard when I first saw his mugshot.

I think he should get the role.
