Matt Reeves to direct "War for the Planet of the Apes" - Part 1

Where would the story even go in a part 4? Ceasar's story is over the series linked itself already to the events in the original series.

So it's either a direct continuation from where part 3 left off or a jump to a pseudo-remake of the original series.

If I was running things I would move the series forward a couple of hundred years. Caesar has become this mythical figure and the Apes have evolved to be something of a bronze age society. Humans have completely devolved to their prehistoric animal state and have become something of a pest, leading to disagreement with the Apes community as to what to do with them with one faction wanting to try and eliminate then and another wanting to protect them.

I'd definitely be up for that. I'd love to see what a primitive ape society looks like versus the "modern" one in the original movie.

We sort of had a medieval Apes society in the Burton film. They weren't familiar with firearms until Wahlberg's character showed up with one.

The Apes in the new franchise have been shown using human guns multiple times but it's debatable they'd be able to build their own yet.

Just got back from seeing it. Loved it. Favorite of the 3.

9/10.

I think this franchise should rest for now. Right now I don't want to or need to see anymore. That said... If in ten years Reeves wants to revisit the world of APES and give us a new story MUCH further down the timeline post WAR then I would be down.

I don't think the franchise has to be tied to Reeves to survive or create interesting stories. But some time away from the trilogy would be nice (both in-universe and out). I want the trilogy and those characters to remain its own thing.

The movie was okay, but I expected more. Kind of a disappointing end for Caesar. I would have liked to see more progression towards the setting of the original Planet of the apes.
The amount of progression between Rise and Dawn was huge. Most of humanity died off and the apes went from mute to using sign language and eventually full speech. The amount of progression between Dawn and War was comparatively minuscule. All we saw was [BLACKOUT]the apes migrating into the desert and a couple humans going mute.[/BLACKOUT] Harrelson's character gives us some exposition about [BLACKOUT]people going mute and how he tried to kill them off,[/BLACKOUT] but all of this happened off screen and wasn't a large part of the story.

There's still plenty more that has to happen between War and the original POTA.

*Entire populations of mute humans appear.
*Human cities are destroyed by atomic bombs.
*Intelligent human populations move under ground, and at least some of them become mutants.
*Entire populations of talking apes appear and they start wearing clothes.
*Apes use mute humans as pets and slaves.
*The Ape religion of the 'Law Giver' appears.
*Some apes begin to cover up the past (similar to Dr Zaius), and hide the evidence of human civilization by creating forbidden zones.
*Apes forget that humans used to speak and that humans created civilization.
*Apes begin a scientific revolution, start experimenting on humans and create archaeology, with some of them -like Cornelius- discovering the truth about the past, and possibly being killed as heretics.

I was hoping that War would show the earth devastated by nuclear weapons. Too bad.
The story of the Law Giver could definitely make an interesting movie, or even a new trilogy. We could see different ape factions going to war. One of them decides to hide the history of humanity, along with remnants of human technology, eventually creating a religion that teaches apes were always the dominant species.

I think this would be the perfect way to go. Have an adult Cornelius as the ape wanting to protect mankind as Maurice taught how much interaction his father had with them.

One phrase I'm sure never gets taken out of context.

I think you shouldn't hold the expectations that things would line up 1:1 with the original movie against the trilogy. It was pretty obvious from Rise that it was never going to be an exact match (speaking as someone who kept wondering when nuclear war would break out watching that movie, lol). It's a soft reboot, essentially. It's meant to serve a broad strokes origin for the beginning of the ape era but it's not beholden to the original movie completely. They left it open ended so it could go in whichever direction they wanted to.

my nephew asked and had a good point. if Caesar died of a wound then how come he stayed alive all this time before the ending? and if the apes were super smart then wouldn't they had a ape who could have learned basic medicine too
thoughts???

I was surprised that he was able to endure that entire journey to their new home, but whatever... it's a nitpick for me

Reeves wasn't kidding when he said he was turning Caesar into a Biblical figure for apes.

He was a Biblical figure in the original series as well. He was literally Jesus in their form of Christianity.

Woody's character if put in a different position did seem like he was someone who would have been eager to nuke the whole world rather than let it fall in the hands of apes.

I guess the one "easter egg" they didn't wrap up was the mention of the space ship launch in Rise.

They were never gonna wrap it up, it was just a quick one off thing for fans that know the story. It's assumed that was Taylor.

There was no way of mentioning the Icarus without it feeling forced. No one on Earth cares, or remembers the ship taking off or being lost in space from 'Rise' because there's way too much chaos on Earth. The Icarus doesn't return for thousands of years, so it's irrelevant to the plot of this trilogy.

It's fine it was left out but it would have been neat to reference it back in a post-credit scene.

In Dawn they had the brief audio of Koba surviving his fall as a post-credit thing.

Isn't that your go to wish for most sequels though, Roose?

Yes and I'll be damned if I don't see it happen in Frozen 2. They won't kill Princess Anna, they'll make Princess Anna kill herself.

All glory to the bomb!

The funny thing is up in till like a few weeks ago I had no idea about the Koba surviving thing in till I saw some one on hear talk about it.

Yeah I knew about it a while ago. Thought they were going to reveal in the 3rd movie he was still alive. I did like[BLACKOUT]how they chose to bring him back in the end as a haunting dream though[/BLACKOUT].

Caesar is much closer to Moses than he is to Jesus. He led an exodus and created the ape commandments (Ape not kill Ape etc).
