The "Fool's Gold" thesp is attached to star in the legal thriller that centers on low-level criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller who finds himself representing a wealthy client with ties to a previous murder case Haller handled.

Project is based on a Michael Connolly best-seller that was published in 2005 by Little, Brown.

Lakeshore snapped up bigscreen rights to the tome six months before "Lincoln Lawyer" hit shelves in what was dubbed a seven-figure deal.

Stone Village Pictures' Scott Steindorff is producing "Lincoln Lawyer" alongside Lakeshore principals Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi.

McConaughey, who most recently played a supporting role in the laffer "Tropic Thunder," will next be seen opposite Jennifer Garner in the romantic comedy "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past."

Cool to see him taking a thriller, it's been a while. My Dad has the book so I'll have to dig it up and give it a read, it got great reviews.

McConaghey.... stop pretending you can act.

Jones to Direct and Co-Star in Lincoln Lawyer

October 14, 2009

Tommy Lee Jones is in negotiations to direct and co-star in The Lincoln Lawyer, the Matthew McConaughey-starrer based on the 2005 best-seller by Michael Connelly.

The film centers on Mickey Haller (McConaughey), a wheeler-dealer Los Angeles lawyer who operates out of the back of his Lincoln. Haller is content with a career defending garden-variety criminals until he lands the case of a lifetime: defending a Beverly Hills playboy accused of murder.

John Romano wrote the screenplay and Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg and Scott Steindorff are producing.

I've read the book and really enjoyed it, hopefully this can deliver, I liked TLJ's direction on The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.

I hate to pile on but I never found Matthew McConaughey to be a good actor.

He ain't that bad. He was likeable enough in A Time To Kill.

I can see Matthew being shirtless wearing a neck tie.

Lionsgate Picks Up The Lincoln Lawyer

Source: Lionsgate
April 26, 2010

Lionsgate announced on Monday that it has acquired U.S. distribution rights from Lakeshore Entertainment and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment to the upcoming legal thriller The Lincoln Lawyer, based on the best-selling Michael Connelly novel of the same name. Lakeshore Entertainment is handling international distribution. The announcement was jointly made today by Joe Drake, Lionsgate Chief Operating Officer and Motion Picture Group President, Tom Rosenberg, Lakeshore Entertainment Chairman and CEO, and Sidney Kimmel, Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (SKE) CEO.

Matthew McConaughey and Marisa Tomei star. The supporting cast includes Ryan Phillippe, William H. Macy, John Leguizamo, Michael Pena, Trace Adkins, and Katherine Moennig. Brad Furman (The Take) will direct from the adapted screenplay by John Romano (Nights in Rodanthe, Intolerable Cruelty). Lakeshore's Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi, and SKE's Sidney Kimmel will produce in association with Scott Steindorff / Stone Village Productions. Production is slated to begin in Los Angeles in July.

Rosenberg said, "I have long admired and respected Sidney Kimmel and it's exciting to have found such a great project for our first collaboration."

Lakeshore secured rights to the Connelly novel prior to its publication date in 2005 and developed the project.

In the film, Mickey Haller (McConaughey) is a Los Angeles criminal defense attorney who operates out of the back of his Lincoln Continental sedan. Haller has spent most of his career defending garden-variety criminals, until he lands the case of a lifetime: defending a Beverly Hills playboy accused of murder. But the seemingly straightforward case suddenly develops into a deadly game of survival for Haller.

I think this actually looks pretty decent I like that final scene in the trailer

Good trailer for sure. Could be a real surprise, but you've got to question why McConaughey and Phillippe were the best they could get.

Philippe is a very underrated actor. It's a shame that his career has somehow been overshadowed by his less-talented (IMO) ex-wife, who plays the same character in everything, yes, even Walk the Line.

McConaughey has shown flashes of real talent over the years as well. Frailty and U-571 are great films. But like so many actors, he traded his credibility for a paycheck with a bunch of crappy rom-coms and the occasional bad action/adventure film (Sahara). Hopefully this will be a return to form for him.

This was excellent, the book was great source material as it's a superb legal thriller and they used it perfectly, sure they trimmed a bit but the meat is all there. The performances are all good and the script is sharp, but the real stand out is McConghey, Mickey Haller is a great character and he captured him with a pitch perfect performance.

There are already two more novels in the Haller series and a 4th is due next month, hopefully word of mouth along with the strong critical response will mean, that despite average BO numbers, they will get adapted as well.
