Part 1 July 6th and part 2 August 3rd.
While some things are closer to the books, it took a few episodes to readjust from the strong impression left from the film. Yet I really like Garcia-Rulfo, who now easily embodies the character Mickey Haller for me.
The first season, especially as the drama of the actual case played out, was terrific.
The biggest impasse for me even though it's slight, has been the use of his ex-wife / legal aide Lorna Crane, who in this iteration apparently micro-manages everything from his cases, to his style, his purpose in life, and is there as his personal cheerleader.
This character type comes off shallow and forced, gratingly played for camp and laughs, when it's not necessary. Bosch never went there. It takes away, somewhat robs the byte and drive from the lead character and story.
While she's in the novels, this^ portrayal is not coming from the author, who has no problem populating the world, and delivering some of the most complex, powerful interesting female characters.
This is all from the TV show, not sure who they are trying to appeal to, with it?
Unfortunately the latest trailer seems to indicate the same, Instead of focusing on the actual case.
Anyway despite that, I'm really looking forward to S2 , cause I love everything else about this show, hopefully again the strength of the case drives the drama, as it did S1 which I really enjoyed.
And while the car shouldn't be a main character or define the lead, in this case in part it does, it's in the Title. The show has it's own identity and style, like adding the classic blue convertible 60s Lincoln Continental as his get-away from it all car, beautifully fits the LA setting.
Unfortunatly the monstrously dull ^Lincoln Navigator, as his "office" work car, makes some sense (size), it reads more soccer-mom, than the hard boiled character in the black Lincoln Town Car, from the Connelly novels and film.
That said I'm still all in on S2.
Yet these details do matter (to me).
