Matthew Vaughn to direct Thor

so when will Thor get his own forum/category among the other comic book heroes here?

I'd say it'd take a bit longer. Probably once we get an official release date or at least some cast. That's when most of these other movies seem to get their own subforums.

I've seen plenty of films sign a director, but then end up going nowhere (Wonder Woman?).

Now all we need is Brad Pitt to play Thor.

:hyper:

As much as I hate to look like a hardcore LOTR fanboy...

Thor

Ok come to think of it, British actors ain't so bad and perhaps perfectly suited for the role of Thor, Loki and Odin.

So candidates like Sean Bean, Clive Owen, and Gerard Butler are so much welcomed.

And the problem with that is...?

Thor never struck me as being a particularly young man. Even if we didn't know about the casting of RDJ and Edward Norton I would still assume Thor would be in his 30s, at least.

I was gonna say that older than 30 is ok. A younger Thor would be jarring, since he often acted like the first or second guy to charge on the enemy in the Avengers.

Thor strikes me as being ancient and old as dirt, yet immortal and still looking relatively young.

Which puts him 30-40 years old, in my mind. Physically.

Might I add Brian Cox as a potentially cool Odin? I know he played Stryker but whatever, this is a Marvel movie not a Fox one (thank Christ!)

He will see this through. This is a Marvel studios project and Marvel doesn't have to rush to get a film out to meet a rights deadline.

Very interesting news. I really enjoyed Layer Cake so I'm hopeful that Vaughn was the wise choice. However the previews for Stardust seem kind of iffy.

Matthew Vaughn will do well here. This movie just seems to suit him.

Maybe I'm not thinking outside the sword-and-sandals box, but I really like 300's Michael Fassbender for the role. He has the charisma, the charm, the intensity, and the overall look. I think he's a natural-born Thor.

I hope this movie is done in the epic manner that it deserves.

Some of these films that have been released have been ok, but didn't provide that epic sense of "whoah!".

300 did, and so did Transformers. LOTR has it, so did Gladiator. I hope the visuals are sweeping, and the action is intense.

Has anyone submitted a script or story synopsis yet?

The good news is that since there's a director attached, it will hopefully not take too long to find our Thor.

I quite agree with you. And I'm not sure how genuine this is, but this by my logic is quite reliable and better yet, sounds great...

I've never really liked the idea of Pitt as Thor. I don't think his role in Troy was one of his best.

I'ld still rather Brian Blessed or John Rhys-Davies as Odin.
Definetely Paul Bettany as Loki though

any of those guys would be awesome.

Brendan Gleeson from Troy, Harry Potter films, 28 days later, lake placid would be great as odin too.

Now who in the hell is going to play THOR???? I just don't see any known actor that i can think of to pull off Thor. Maybe one of those 300 guys, I just don't know.

I think now Thor needs his own Section on the Hype-Boards.

I'm glad this movie finally has a director. Now all we need is a Captain America director.

I'm hoping this will not have very much humor in it. Marvel lately has been having a tendency of having a lot of humor in their most recent movies. I think that is ok with obviously Spider-man and Fantastic Four, but Thor would be a laughing stock if they would have way too much humor or any at all. Thor should be more Lord of the Rings-ish and epic if it is going to work as movie.

The only character who should be comedic is Loki.

I'm sure it will once Vaughn is officially signed. :)

---> Zeptron

Not sure Loki should be funny, maybe in a way. Keep in mind there might be Volstag for the comedic purpose ; I'm not worried about that btw, he could be Gimli-funny.

What about Karl Urban, since so many LOTR actor has been mentioned?

Hey folks, Harry here... The week before I got married, I got a whole host of scripts. About 20 to be exact and in and amongst those was the latest script by Mark Protosevich (I AM LEGEND, JOHN CARTER OF MARS)... THOR.

I'm a huge THOR geek. Even got that Mjolnir replica they issued a few years back - and I constantly hope a burglar breaks into my house so I can smash his face with my uru hammer. (joke... kinda).

So when this script hit... I'm a huge fan of Protosevich... worked with him for quite some time on John Carter and he's a great guy to work with... intensely passionate about the material he's working on... and I kinda hate that I didn't get the script from Mark, cuz when he turned in his draft on JOHN CARTER - it came accompanied with a soundtrack cd he had made (that looked like Mars) that was made up of the music he was listening to, as he wrote the script. Richard Kelly does this too.

Anyway - I sat down and dove into the script. This isn't a Donald Blake, doctor on vacation story. Instead, this is a genuine TALES OF ASGARD story. In the first few pages the creation of everything takes place... the origin of the gods, their universe and how midgard (that's are place in the universe) came to be.

It has Thor and Loki as brothers - the best of friends... and it shows how that goes bad. The origin of the uru hammer, Thor being thrown from Asgard to being a mere mortal... it's a HUGE story - easily the most awesome script that a MARVEL project has ever had.

About 3 weeks ago, I heard they were talking to Matthew Vaughn... I'm a huge fan of Matthew's STARDUST. However, I'm sure Matthew knows this... but the tone of STARDUST and this THOR script are very very different. There can be no tongue in cheek, no broad comedy... this is an intense story or deception, quests and battles amongst gods. Protosevich channeled all the best from Kirby's universe and I hope to Odin that they take their visual cue from his work.

This has the chance to literally kick everything we have coming up's ass.

It's an epic step forward in ambition for Matthew Vaughn - I know MARVEL loves this script - I just hope they allow this project to live up to its potential. Now they have the hardest task of all... finding Thor. Me - there's a half crazed part of me that wants Ernest Borgnine to play ODIN - ala his Ragnar from THE VIKINGS. But that's probably just me.
