Matthew Vaughn to direct Thor

Late this year if all goes as plans. They have to get it done before the strike. I'd imagine Nov-Jan start.

Are they going to shoot a second project ala Iron Man/Incredible Hulk? I know they keep saying Captain America is "next" but that was even before Iron Man.

Here's a bit of McKidd's acting from a trailer to that journeyman show:

This, of course is wildly different from Thor, but I'm positive he'll be able to do the role justice.

Never seen him act. Looking at the images, he looks devious, like he'd be a candidate for Loki.

Actually this is a rare time when we have an actor who could do either role, or Donald Blake as well(if they were going to have DB played by a different actor than Thor).

Hey all! :)

Okay, so far we have about a dozen suggestions. But how many fit all the right criteria, and what are the right criteria we want in a Thor?

1. Acting Ability: Arguably the most important aspect, but without the other criteria becomes absolutely worthless.
2. Age: Personally I think 25-30 is the best idea. Thor is meant to look relatively young, and we have the franchise to consider.
3. Good-looking: Thor should be attractive to women.
4. Hair: Less important than some of the others, but certainly blond hair would be preferable.
5. Height: Personally I think this is vitally important. I know a few of you have said (ludicrously) anything over 5'9" is acceptable, but frankly thats just preposterous. I'd impose a minimum height restriction of 6'3".
6. Physique: Again, not that important because the actor can always work out (I mean look how the 300 turned out).
7. Voice: Not something thats been mentioned much to date, but I think the voice of Thor is important.

So who measures up:

Vladimir Kulich (5/7)

1, 4, 5, 6, 7.

His age is counting against him massively, and he aint much of a pretty boy.

Triple H (4/7)

4, 5, 6, 7.

Doesn't have the acting talent, borders on too old (taking the franchise into consideration) and is not handsome.

Chris Hemsworth (5 1/2/7)

1 (half), 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (half), 7 (half).

Does he have the acting chops - unknown (so I made that a half), also with voice, his voice sounded fairly deep to me but certainly not as imposing as someone like Kulich in that regard, also he would need to ditch his accent, half again. Would also need to bulk up for the role even though hes in good shape. So another half.

Karl Urban (4/7)

1 (half), 2 (half), 3, 5 (half), 6 (half), 7.

Urban is an okay actor, hes bordering on too old, doesn't have the hair color (less important I know), is borderline for the height as well, would need to work out a lot but has the voice I think.

Looking at the above, I think the criteria need to be adjusted to give the more important criteria more weight.

Acting - worth 2
Age - worth max. 2 (20 something = 2, 30 something = 1, 40 something = 0, 50 something = -1 etc).
Good looking - worth 2
Hair - worth 1 (if blond)
Height - worth max. 2 (6'3"-6'5" = 2, every 2 inches +/- = one point less)
Physique - worth 1
Voice - worth 2

So in marks out of 12

Vladimir Kulich 7/12
Triple H 7/12
Chris Hemsworth 9/12
Karl Urban 7/12
Ray Stevenson 8/12
Kevin Mc Kidd 5/12
Tom Cruise 2/12
Gerard Butler 9/12

Any others?

It should be noted that Ray Stevenson is going to be the Punisher - so in my eyes that takes him out of the running. Gerard Butler is also booked up to 2009 with regards doing movies. Realistically Kulich is far too old.

That leaves Triple H, Karl Urban and Chris Hemsworth of the known actors listed above. Of those Triple H is actually shooting a movie for release in 2009 called Journey into Death, but I doubt that would affect shooting of Thor? Karl Urban has two movies to make, unknown whether that would affect the Thor schedule.

Although I iniitially suggested Chris Hemsworth, I still don't think we have a perfect actor listed above. They all see to have pro's and cons.

5. Height: Personally I think this is vitally important. I know a few of you have said (ludicrously) anything over 5'9" is acceptable, but frankly thats just preposterous. I'd impose a minimum height restriction of 6'3".

Wow.... That's just ridiculous and INCREDIBLY limiting.

I hope the Kevin McKidd thing pans out to be true so we can end the crazy casting suggestions once and for all... at least until people start putting all their focus on Loki...

Triple H should be thrown in a Mexican prison until after this movie starts production. :(

Its harsh, but not ridiculous. If you can get an actor who fits all the other criteria (borderline Josh Holloway) but was only 6'1 1/2" then perhaps you could be tempted to lower it.

I fail to see how anyone can look at McKidd and think Thor - its utterly preposterous...and yes I have seen Rome.

at least until people start putting all their focus on Loki...

You could randomly throw a stone in Hollywood and hit an actor who could play Loki. Loki is easy casting, Thor is tough casting.

I agree, McKidd's 6'1' in his bare feet and they can always do movie magic to make him seem larger. He''l be as tall or taller than RDJ(in armor) without any movie magic. Cast TTT and you might as well thrown the whole movie away.

Loki = Crispin Glover

I also think this makes Damon a VERY real possibility for Cap. If Thor is 6"1, I doubt they will want an actor for Cap that towers Thor, so Damon's 5"11 would work easily.

I knew someone would take the bait.:cwink:

:woot:

It was a good set up
