Matthew Vaughn to direct Thor

Maybe they will dub Triple H and just use his body. Might be the best answer. Cause, we can see his glorious acting in Blade: Trinity. Not right for Thor, but might be a good choice if he was dubbed.

And I have seen this strike mentioned, but what is happening? Who is going on strike?

Leave Ant Man out. It's a project that comes out from Avi Arad's mind, same like Ghost Rider and Elektra. Marvel should concentrate on Thor and Cap. Now, common sense starts to creep up because of the impending strike.

It's good to know that you people understand the workings of Hollywood. A flop is a flop. You are only as successfull as your last film. Stardust cost $75 million and will not make it's money back. That is all any studio, including Marvel is concerned with. Why would Marvel hand over $100 million to someone who just had a flop. I'm not saying it won't happen, I really shouldn't have implied it was dead. I was really joking. However, this hurts the films chances in terms of Vaughn directing. Even the stigma of a flop is bad news for a filmmaker.

Wow! You are an idiot.

Until Thor starts shooting, nothing is set in stone.

Well, I seem to remember that Zathura was a pretty big flop, but it doesn't seem to affect Favs chances of directing Iron Man (I think it was like 6 months after it opened that they hired him).

Although I completely agree on the last part.

Marvel seems to be going after directors who are critically successful over how well their films did $-wise. Lots of variables account for how well a movie does, not just if it's a good film or not. Stardust has good WOM, it'll do well on DVD and turn a profit there I'd bet.

I was just about to say that. It's brand recognition and content. Zathura suffered for some of the same reasons that The Island did. Speaking of The Island I wonder why Tranformers was still made. Island was a flop. Everyone must be idiots. LOL

Elf is not a flop, though.

Who's going on strike?

The problem is simple: how much power does Vaughn have in this struggle? If Stardust had opened bigger, he’d certainly have more. Add to that the fact that a strike is looming, which means that Vaughn isn’t going to have a lot of time to find his perfect Thor, plus everybody’s schedules are getting quite packed as they’re trying to fit in as much last minute work as possible. If he can find his perfect Thor and convince Marvel to hire him, it won’t make a difference if the actor’s dance card is completely full from here until the strike deadline.

I guess you can google also.

Kim from Home and Away???? Can't see it. Like KangConquers' choices for Thor and Loki though. Christopher Eccleston is a very good suggestion for Loki. Who's that as Thor? Kulich?

And please no Triple H for Thor please. Not Brad Pitt either. And there are far better choices than Karl Urban. Not him please. We don't need flavour of the month actors if you ask me.

See, I told you I had a gut feeling Marvel was going to look at Triple H. I wouldn't want it either, but unless they can find an "unknown" we might not have much of a choice.

I just hope Vince won't want any part of the film, I don't want the WWE stamp no where near it.

They're not going with triple H or any other wrestler, I guarantee it.

I think Transformers was in production before The Island even came out. And now that TF has been a commercial success, there's no chance of expelling Bay from Hollywood anytime soon.:cwink:

Josh Holloway to play "Thor"?
Thanks to Leslies_a_*****in_Name for the following.

"There's no word yet on who might be asked to wear the winged helmet, but as is the case when Hollywood utters the words "superhero" or "sci-fi," the blogs are already atwitter with suggestions."This pretty much has Josh Holloway written all over it," wrote IceTruckDexter on cinematical.com, while others suggested Matthew McConaughey, Jason Mewes (must be a hair thing), New Zealand-born actor Karl Urban (lately an assassin in The Bourne Supremacy) and, of course, Vincent D'Onofrio, who memorably played a beefy mechanic who was mistaken for Thor in Adventures in Babysitting in 1987."

On second thought posting this was pointless.

Holloway is to thin. Karl Urban or no movie.

You mean like how Christian Bale is too thin to play Batman?

It's not like he could, you know... work out or anything like that.

Josh Holloway is actually a suggestion I can see myself getting behind. I would be riding the Karl Urban band-wagon were it not for the fact that something about his face has always pissed me off, and I feel that the people suggesting him are just giving into a gut-reaction after seeing him play a viking warrior in pathfinder.

It won't be Holloway, shooting on Lost goes all the way into February or March. He wouldn't be available if Marvel wanted to start filming Thor this year.

I really, truly love Josh Holloway; he’s a great actor, but not Thor material. I pretty flexible with many of the different actors chosen to play the characters of loved superheroes. Wolverine for an example; Hugh Jackman did not fit the build of Wolverine but he was able to pull it off, more than pull it off he frigging rocked as Wolverine (possibly one of the best cast X-men, right along with Pro. X)...I could make that exception with Wolverine because his attitude in the comics and cartoon portrayed a man of larger stature...so Jackman filled the part. Thor on the other hand is already a massive guy after all he’s a god, so putting someone even at Holloway's height (6'-6'1'') is hard for me to grasp. I know they can use special effects so I'll never notice his (Josh) lack of height compared to the almighty Thor, but I'll know it!! Sides I'm just not convinced he could play Thor.
(Does that make any sense...I mean I understand but doesn't every mad-woman understand her own words!)

Then I guess I have no choice but to jump aboard the Karl Urban train. I'm sure he could do a job I, I don't know I would just rather someone else... No idea who, but still. If he got the role I would still be excited though, so I'm not really worried.

Though he used to be quite the pretty boy back in the day.

Eh, screw it, guys. I'll just play Thor. Tell Matt Vaughn that I said I'll do it, and point me in the direction of some pimptastic Thor comics to read.

People really need to stop suggesting wrestlers for every goddamn big superhero role. They're not the only big people in the world and maybe one ro two (The Rock and Tyler Mane come to mind) have proven themselves to be decent actors.

^ The same should be said for bloody Brad Pitt for every bloody superhero role not to mention Angelina Jolie. Some people in here just don't know how to pick suitable actors.

No Urban

No Holloway

NO TRIPLE H!!!!!

They must pick somebody who is actually around 6'6" with the right look and not shorter like 6'2". If he ain't buffed well a little bulking up at the Gym can easily fix that.

Just days after Matthew Vaughn was announced as director of the Thor adaptation over at Marvel Studios, a name has started floating around industry circles as a potential lead.

Looks like there may be another superhero coming out of HBO’s Rome. First it was Ray Stevenson who was announced as the new Punisher. Now, Kevin McKidd, Rome’s Lucius Vorenus, is being rumored as the new mighty Thor!

The Thor script was penned by Mark Protosevich and is said to very origin heavy. Origin of Norse Gods, origin of the Uru Hammer, origin of how Thor came to be basically, which makes a lot of sense considering the last time most saw Thor on the big screen was in Adventures in Babysitting!

McKidd is currently shooting Made of Honor with Patrick Dempsey and finished up Dylan based on the life of poet Dylan Thomas.

The IESB has not been able to get full confirmation on this casting as of yet, we'll keep you updated!

Marvel Studios is looking to start shooting on Thor by this winter in order to stay one step ahead of the looming writers’ guild strike.
