World MCG suit design

hmm. weird. the belt is pretty lame and im not diggin that collar. oh and that symbol is really stupidly big.

looking around on Deviant Art, I found this piece of art... I've read a long time ago about what the MCG suit what of looked like, and after comparing what I know about it and this pic, I believe that this is an official suit design of that era.

personally, I like it. I like the use of color that it uses, as it keeps an opverly bright look to Superman... it may be a bit bright for my tastes, but it does look colorfully appealing.

It's pretty cool, although I much prefer the usual attire.

For my money, probably the best Superman suit design ever. I would ditch the crew neck and fill in the belt - but I love that there is red over the shoulders and the belt (what there is of it) slants downward like the Batman Begins belt.

If Routh's suit were to ditch the trunks, have a sloping belt for a colour breakup, and had all red above the shield and over the shoulders, the rest of the Routh suit could stay the same and overall it would be a great-looking costume.

The bottom-line problem with Routh's suit is that overall it makes him look too lanky rather than powerful. Routh's actually well-built, but the Suit unfortunately minimizes that.

on the contrary, I would of liked to have seen what someone looked like in this suit, and judging from what has been filmed, there's probably a screen test out there with someone in this suit...

You think? I would have thought no costumes were made as no actor was cast.

a man named Rob Burnette joined The Planet forums a while back, giving us an opportunity to ask him questions about the dvd stuff of SR... someone asked him if there was anything from the aborted attempts, and he said that there were suit designs, concepts, concept art, screen tests, and a few other things... there's probably a screen test of Cage somewhere with a black body suit and a \S/ glued on for a screen test... who knows,

but they do exist. And so does the finished RTK scene.

This suit sucks...its not Superman at all...Superman is not supposed to look Kryptonian or cool....

Superman is "not supposed to look cool"? Whatever gave you that idea? If anyone needs to have a commanding presence (which I'd equate with "cool" in this discussion), it's Supes.

Andy

I like it better then the SR design. I've never been a fan of the trunks on anyone, and I do like the larger symbol. The only thing I'm not a fan of is how bright it is. Bright costumes just look silly. I know I'm probably blaspheming when I say this, but I never liked the Reeve Superman suits. They were too bright. I actually liked the more muted colors in SR (the only thing I liked out of the costume) but I probably wouldn't make it quite that muted.

I only like the belt if the torso piece and leggings are shown to clearly be TWO separate pieces. Otherwis, it's like running a belt around a wet suit...really doesn't make sense, and kinda distracting.
HOWEVER...
I have repeatedly said, and STILL maintain, that Supes should have at least TWO suits. One, the "classic" (or a SLIGHTLY updated version), and the other, "full dress class A" suit. He would wear the "classic" suit to do the day-to-day Supes stuff, and the "class A" suit for stuff like meeting the President, other heads of state, alien ambassadors, etc.
Let's face it, none of us would wear our "work" clothes to meet the President, and neither should Supes.

This suit sucks...its not Superman at all...Superman is not supposed to look Kryptonian or cool....

Not to flame or troll, but just think for a minute, does the suit itself suck, or does it just suck as a Supes suit? I AM NOT SAYING THAT YOU ARE WRONG, as your opinion cannot be wrong, but... Imagine another hero in that suit. I could see the Hal Jordon GL in a suit just like that, just in green and black, and with the lantern symbol instead of the \S/. And yes, I know Earth GL's don't sport capes, but whatever.
EDIT: and as far as the size of the symbol, I have an idea on it...
We keep forgeting that the character is NOT Clark Kent, and he is NOT Superman. He is Kal-el.
When he wants to "be" Clark Kent, he hides his Kryptonian heritage as much as possible. However, I have always thought that as Supes, he should accentuate his "Kryptonian-ness", and one way to do that would be to make the \S/ larger, more noticable. Clark Kent says "I am one of you." Supes says "I am not one of you, but I do love the people of Earth."

I'd rather have that than Singers...

im with you dude...

Q: What is your opinion of the Superman suit in Superman Returns?

BH: Honestly - very disappointing.

Q: Explain what disappoints you in the Superman costume and how does it compare to the Stan Winston one?

BH: The costume that ended up in the film was just rip-off of the original Christopher Reeves Superman costume. One thing that really bugs me is the maroon boots and cape, Superman's costume is "RED" and blue; not to mention the colors clash and it just looks too flat - not at all dynamic in its appearance. The suit I had the opportunity to work on at Stan Winston's was very dynamic and had a very modern, almost Batman feel. In my opinion, it was a much, much better design! I could be a little bias to I guess . . .

Ummm... I dunno who you're quoting exactly, but how is it that the SR suit is a ripoff of the Reeve suit? To me, it looks like an overstylized version of the comics suit while the Reeve suit basically is the comics suit with a few minor differences. I dunno, the first like of that guy's response makes no sense at all.

probably one of the dumbest, most ridiculous things I've heard people say about the suit. and I've heard a lot of s#!t.

Superman is not Kryptonian. He was raised here in Earth. He is the most human alien. This costume makes Superman look like a dictator not a friendly hero.

ok...yes...sorry for that...it was just a bit of an interview i read a while back in BlueThights...i only posted the part i really thought was more akin to the thread subject...

Someone on these boards posted last year a manipulation of Routh with this suit on.
Probably someone who had already seen this design.

ewwww

of course it looks bad... it's a manip. The artist's rendition looks much better...
