It constantly calls to me and now with Kingdoms out, the temptation is greater...But I need some input. I was a fan of the first gen of Total War games (Shogun and Medieval) but I never touched Rome (the era didn't interest me) but Medieval 2 really looks great though the requirements are a bit much.

My rig current runs at 1.66 GHz while the game requires about 1.8. Will there be significant problems if I try playing it? Any major lagging?

It won't even run. Many years ago I tried to run CnC Generals in a similar situation. It wouldn't run.

Really? Crud. Any chance that the game has like a selectable graphics level like Relic games?

Download the demo from someplace like fileplanet.com and try it out. I played Shogun and I still have M:TW on my laptop, though I haven't loaded it up in about 6 months (mainly because I know that once I start a campaign, I'll become fused to my laptop and shun my friends and work). I've never played Rome, and haven't tried M:TW2 yet.

LoL. Yeah, the campaigns are immersive especially for Medieval. Having played Shogun(my first taste of Micromanagement), Medieval was a blast though if you play as the Muslim factions during Later Periods, you're at a severe disadvantage.

I HAVE to try out the South American factions! The Mayans/Aztecs look wicked ***king cool!

Oh, has anyone checked out the articles and reports for CA's latest project:

Empire: Total War

It looks very very cool though I'm worried that it will probably crash my rig upon insertion.

The Maya are only in the Kingdoms expansion Americas campagin. The standard M2TW only has the Aztec and they aren't playable in campagin. You can play them in custom battle and pwn them with europeans after 1400 but that's it.

Hey guys, back from playing Medieval 2 and after giving the game some major hours, I have to say this is probably THE most challenging Total War game I've played yet, and I haven't even bought the expansions yet!

The game is rock solid in terms of both micro/macro management and the combat system (whether you're sieging or being sieged) is incredibly rendered as troops fight on every street, on nearly every terrain imaginable. Unfortunately, diplomacy is as bland as its predeccesors where an ally can attack you and ask for a Ceasefire all in the same turn. It lacks the diplomacy system so strongly implemented in the Sid Meier games but hey, the game IS called TOTAL WAR so while getting backstabbed by nearly every Italian faction in the game is annoying, wiping them out is even more gratifying.

That being said, the game suffers from major slowdown on my rig in the middle o heavy fighting. With DoW: Soulstorm and Empire: Total War coming sooner or later, I think its time to build myself an uber rig to run the next generation of RTS.

I tried this game out, recently. I agree with the above post. It's a great game.

Had your obligatory Total War migrane yet?

Not that I can remember...but I did have a couple of weeks go by, where friends were starting to worry about me...

Yeah well wait till we get our paws on Empire:Total War.

Like I said, the era never really interested me. Maybe the Carthage-Rome Punic Wars but little else.

I might, who knows. But really...Empire looks to be pretty damn epic. I'm all up for seeing the world firmly it control of the Prussian Empire....As it should be....JK.
