Mega Man 9 (XBLA, PSN, WiiWare)

They have explained in interviews that they felt the way to honor the original Mega Man and the fans of hardcore classic Mega Man action.

And like Geo said, because it's cool.

I think that it was the best idea Capcom has had for Mega Man in years. My favorite Mega Man series was the original, and I thought that the games lost their charm once moved to the SNES and then the PS1. I'm hoping it's a hit and maybe it will get Capcom to make more sequels in the classic style.
I hate it and think its a horrible idea. Its a step backwards IMO. I wish they had given it a different name instead of making it Mega Man 9

Obviously it's a step backwards, it's by nature a step backwards, but it's a step backwards into the good ol' days.

If this wasn't 8-Bit I would have no interest in it. I don't like any game in the Mega Man series except for the NES classics. Not talking about the X series and the other spinoffs of course.

Now, it seems that Capcom is making sure that the game is good and not just the graphics. I want great bosses, enemies, and cool stages with lots of death traps to make me learn from my mistakes like the good ol' days. Not some lame next-gen game that destroys the fundamental of the series.

NES Mega Man gameplay is iconic and it's the only thing I want.

The achievements have been revealed and with them, the sprites of all the bosses. They look awesome.

Mega Man 8 and Mega Man and Bass were both great games. Mega Man Powered Up is also pretty good. Capcom could have used any of them as a model for their next title

Those are some insane achievements :hehe: .

I second this opinion. Is it not possible to have better looking sprites AND have gameplay of yesteryear?

Some of those Achievements look brutal.

The point was to make it look like the older games. I really don't get the hate for the decision, if you love the older Mega Man games, then you should be psyched.

I think it is a fantastic and clever idea to make it identical, even down to the old glitches, to the original games of the series.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating, I'm loving it either way. It's just that, in my mind anyway, Capcom have always been the leading force in 2D advancement, and this is just a backwards decision. I can't help but think like a "Lost Episode" that didn't get a chance to make it to the NES rather than a whole new game.

I hope it leads to more "Lost Episodes" in any case.

 Here's hoping X9 isn't too far behind.

I loved Metal Gear 1 and 2 for the NES/MSX but by no means would I prefer for the next game to go back to having the graphics and feel of those games, not with the advances in technology and the series we have today. Ditto with Bionic Commando, which just got an overhaul in graphics and presentation while still maintaining and improving on the awesome gameplay from the NES days. That game is a great throwback to the original game, yet at the same time, feels very modern. Its merged the 2 opposing sides perfectly. Dont see why MM cant be as fortunate

What real advances in game play have occurred in the true Mega Man games since back then? It seems to me like you just want it to have awesome graphics.

It's a throwback to retro gaming, which a lot of people love and cherish. It can be done with Mega Man because the series hasn't really advanced past the side scrolling platformer it once was.

It's a fun blast from the past, I really don't understand your hostility towards it.

I dont have hostility towards it despite how I may come across. I will most likely buy it and chances are, I might like it. I just dont like the decision Capcom has taken with it. I feel its a step back in the wrong direction and not attempting to take the series forward. I get that its going for the retro feel and that being the case, they release this as spinoff MM or "Lost Episodes" as mentioned here. It shouldnt be Mega Man 9, the next canon game in the series. Thats my take and opinion on the matter.
