Megan Fox to star in Fathom ?

Actress Megan Fox has scored the title role, Aspen's Frank Mastromauro told Wizard, "I think she's fantastic for this part. She knows so much about Fathom, which is spectacular. Growing up she was a huge fan of the book and a huge fan of Michael's. When we met her, she was already well versed in [Fathom] volume one and [was] asking us questions about the book. And it's just really great to have someone who is enthusiastic about the material. Not because it's another movie they're making, but because it's a movie that in their heart they want to make because they love the character and they love Michael and the people who created it so much. Of course it's fantastic that she's in some great movies ... she's definitely the 'it' girl right now. And I think she's going to do a fantastic job. I've met her several times and I know she's really into the project. When [Michael Turner] met Megan he thought she was fantastic. He was 100 percent for it and couldn't have been happier. He honestly couldn't have pictured someone else doing this right now, just due to the fact that Megan was so into the character. It's a no-brainer. She just translates Mike's beautiful woman into live action perfectly." The screenplay will be based on the first volume of Fathom and will be adapted by Jordan Mechner.

Ugh. I hate back-slapping press releases like this. Fine, Megan Fox "gets" Fathom. That's great and all, but she isn't writing, directing or producing the film, hence she has very little to do with quality control.

Angelina Jolie was pretty enthusiastic about Tomb Raider too. I don't recall walking out of that one smiling.

Plus, as frequently mentioned, it is 20th Century Fox we're talking about.

well everyone always mentiones how tobey was a fan of spiderman,bale about batman,...
and so on.
dont be mad at them. be mad at fans who think that if the main actor is a fan of the comics that the movie will then be good.

Does anyone know of a shooting date yet? Atleast have they pinned down a certain time period? Like say spring 2010?

Like im wondering is fathom the next movie Megan plans on shooting? I havn't heard them announce anymore films(after Jenifers Body in Aug and Jonah Hex next summer) and filming for Transformers 3 wont begin for over a year.

Seems like this movie can pretty much be considered cancelled or put on the corner,Megan Fox's days are over so i doubt she'll get the role.
I Never read the comics, is it any good? From here it seems like fan service and naked women on the water

I remember back when the Fathom comic debuted and I thought it was pretty much an excuse for half to mostly naked women frolicking in the water. I never read it though because the last thing I needed was collecting another series at the time.

She's still getting parts, so I doubt her days are over just yet, but after Jonah Hex and Jennifer's Body, no one's gonna let her try to open a movie anytime soon.
