Mel Gibson Arrested but thats not the big story, read on!

Being drunk doesn't make you liar - it loosens your inhibitions that would have otherwise prevented you from saying what you are currently thinking.

And, as Assassin and Cyma have demonstrated - some people actually agree with what Mel's said under the influence. That just ticks me off. I haven't blamed my problems on other races, either.

So I ask again....."What else do you want him to do?"

He got caught. It was bad. He owned up to it.

What now??

Mel didn't really own up to it. All he said was that he didn't mean what he said. That's sort of trying to look for a way to edge yourself out of the hot seat, not so much owning up to it. Maybe being drunk, but not the comments.

And, I agree with the fact that being drunk makes you speak your mind. If it wasn't on your mind to begin with, you wouldn't say it, no?

I'm feeling a heavy-buzz right now!

filthy Jews. They always pull me over!

What now isn't up to him, it's up to us and the general public. He's been rumoured of being a anti-semitic schismatic Catholic, and so has his father, for years now, and "The Passion of the Christ" didn't help.

His mumbling anti-semitic remarks while drunk has just revealed who he really is when he's not acting in front of the cameras. It's up to the people in Hollywood to choose how to react to a guy who's bigotry has been revealed, which should be fun since a fair number of the people in Hollywood are Jews.

I mean, it'd be the same if Tom Cruise, pulled over while drunk, said, "Oh my God, I'm so ****ing homosexual! I love to have sexual relations with men! Are you a man?"

Yeah, no one has ever used that in an apology...

*sigh*

Mel Gibson is a...hahaha...."self-loathing" Bigot.

He knows that bigotry doesn't mesh with his fanatical religious beliefs,...that's why it only comes out when booze has weakened his inhibitions.

He's a f***ing Jew-Hater, just like his Dad.
Only after he admits that he has a problem, can he possibly begin to change for the better.

"What now" is he suffers the consequences of his irresponsibility. It's not an easy thing, but neither is life.

My thoughts about Mel Gibson/Media right now:

Oh well.

Mel Gibson may very well have racial biases, but, we all have fallen short in various areas of our lives that others would think less of us if they knew how we have fallen short. I can think of many things that are worse than having racial biases, as long as those biases aren't acted upon.

I think that if he honestly deals with with his shortcoming and becomes a better human being as a result, that it's something that should be forgiven.

However, when a person has repented of his action, there should be forgiveness.

driving drunk, no wouldn't surprise me, I have to be honest and say I've driven after drinking...wrong thing to do, but to say I haven't would be a lie....as far as racist remarks....yeah that would surprise me...

What blows my mind is people that say they aren't racist. Everyone is to a certain degree....some are more vocal than others, but its there....I'm certainly not going to deny that, but I can also say that I'm not vocal about it.....doesn't make it anymore right or wrong...vocal or not....

But when drunk people say and do stupid things.....thats a fact.....we just don't get them publicized.....and we should probably be thankful...:o

Please speak for yourself, I am not racist and do not make racist remarks. By the way the statement about it being right or wrong, indicates you don't realise why it is considered wrong by society are you also homophobic?

To quote my friends at Avenue Q: "Everyone's a little bit Racist."

It's just those who act upon their biases that are bigots.

Sorry but thats bull**** and you need to need to look at yourself alittle closer...

oh please what the hell does homophobic have to do with any of this...

the right or wrong simply is for people like you who think they aren't racist....sorry but apparently you don't know what is racist and what isn't....if you did you would know that you harbour some of those thoughts....very simple, take your glasses off.

I agree I see alot of stones being thrown by apparently perfect people.:o

Only if he is truly sincere, and if you know it won't happen again.

We cannot read the heart, so if a person apologizes we can only assume that it is sincere.

It could very well happen again. However, if a drug addict is worthy of forgiveness, despite falling into his habit repeatedly, isn't a person who has another personal weakness worthy of forgiveness even if he falls into it repeatedly?

Then none of us are worthy of forgiveness if thats the criteria for it....

Mel does not need our forgiveness.

Want to know why?

Mel is a rich bastard. When Mel goes home every night, he probably jumps in a pool filled with his money like Scrooge McDuck. Mel does not give a crap what we think about him, and why should he? He could go into a supermarket tomorrow and whack off on the Hickory Farms products, and people would still go out and buy Beyond Thunderdome on DVD. All the apologies, all the pleas for forgiveness that we're seeing are him going through the motions--maybe he's being sincere, maybe not. It doesn't matter. Forgive Mel if you want, hate him if you want--he'll still be rich, and he'll always have some sort of fanbase, no matter what he does.

I think thats pretty much a given...I think at this point the conversation has gone past that and we are looking at a "bigger picture" than just Mel Gibson.

No, I know what a racist is. I simply am not one, please don't transfer your own flaws onto others.

What does homophobia have to do with it? I merely wondered how far your bigotry went.

Your self reflective post about the thoughts you harbour and your feelings towards those different to you has answered it.

Good day to you!

My point exactly.

Y'see, there's the difference between forgiving and forgetting. You can forgive a drug addict - but that doesn't mean you'll leave him alone with your medicine cabinet.

You can forgive Mel Gibson, but it doesn't mean you have to cast him in your movie or finance his projects. I think people doubting the sincerity of his apology refer to the fact that he had to get caught before he apologized. He didn't just have a sudden change of heart, think, "OMG, I'm a bigot, and I need help" and go to counselling.

I can believe that image of him as a self-loathing bigot. His dad is a public anti-semite, but Mel's been raised by his dad's beliefs his entire life, it's ingrained in his system. I've always been wary of political conservatives, because my parents have always been staunch liberals and have raised me as such. I'm not saying Mel can't help it - but if he looks at a synagogue and feels instinctual hate, then hates himself for it...that's kinda sad.
