I like Gibson, he's a consistent kind of guy, who even if he's sleepwalking through a role will still deliver some good work. I think he and De Niro couldve captured some good chemistry.

Winstone Replaces De Niro in Darkness
Source: Variety
September 12, 2008

Variety says Ray Winstone will replace Robert De Niro in Edge of Darkness, starring alongside Mel Gibson in the Martin Campbell-directed drama produced by Graham King's GK Films.

Winstone is negotiating to play an operative sent to clean up evidence in the murder of a woman. Gibson plays her detective father, who wants answers after his daughter is shot on his doorstep.

Danny Huston, Shawn Roberts and Bojana Novakovic also star. The film is based on the Campbell-directed 1985 BBC miniseries.

Shooting began in Massachusetts on Aug. 18.

I love Winstone!

Gibson looks pretty good. I think his "Fat Max" comments are premature

Warner Bros. Acquires Edge of Darkness
Source: Variety
February 18, 2009

Warner Bros. has acquired North American rights to the thriller Edge of Darkness, directed by Martin Campbell and starring Mel Gibson from production company GK Films, reports Variety.

The story is based on the BBC mini-series of the same name and is centered on a veteran homicide detective for the Boston Police Department whose only child is murdered on the steps of his home.

"Darkness," shot on location in Boston and elsewhere in Massachusetts, completed filming in November and is in post production. The screenplay is by William Monahan (The Departed) and Andrew Bovell (Lantana) from an original story by Troy Kennedy Martin.

Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Bojana Novakovic and Shawn Roberts co-star.

I miss seeing Mel in movies, so i'm looking forward to this. :)

Hmmm...Warner Bros. just got the rights to Edge of Darkness, directed by MARTIN CAMPBELL, who's directing Green Lantern for Warner Bros. Sounds like a deal in the contract, hmm?

Gibson still looks like he can do another lethal weapon flick.

WB is looking like it should have a very good 2009, with Watchmen, Terminator, Harry Potter, Whiteout, The Informant, Where the Wild Things Are, Sherlock Holmes, and now Edge of Darkness.

I am looking forward to this movie probably more than any other this year.

Mel Gibson is my favorite actor and his Braveheart is the best movie I have ever seen! Definitely my favorite movie. I'm so happy to see him acting again after a long hiatus.

This is seems sure to be a winner and hopefully gets Mel back in a good spotlight again. The guys is just so great in front and behind the camera!

I find it interesting that WB acquired the rights to this film, considering Campbell is directing Green Lantern.

what ever happened to Mel's Aussy accent by the way?

Even in Lethal Weapon 1, you can hear it.

I reckon after you live somewhere for so long you lose accents.

I know my southern accent comes out when I'm away from the city for any period of time and back in the country

Anyone else think Payback is an underrated film? I think it's great.

Payback was one of the few good remakes; I recommend seeing the original however, POINT BLANK!

Payback was just completely bada**! Mel Gibson was in top form in that movie! It is definitely underrated, at least among critics I think.

Definitely underrated. I should have the director's cut coming in the mail from Blockbuster in a few weeks. I just watched the DC for Lethal Weapon. Nothing better than gettin my Mel on!

The Payback DC is cool because its almost an entirely new movie. Just a hint to how different it is: Kris Kristofferson is not in the director's cut.
