Mel Gibson & Vince Vaughn in 'Dragged Across Concrete'

Pretty interesting TDB's getting so up-in-arms over it, they've always seemed a little more straight-down-the-line than the usual self-worth-through-feeling-aggrieved Salon/Guardian types.

Oh, Melvin Gibsons, riling people up as usual. Crazy Riggs.

ooohhhh boy. Something tells me the director is gonna regret making that one

The lack of flag planting is enough for controversy these days...so this could face boycott not curiosity

People who deem the director racist, obviously

or just because of Gibson

The people who go to these kinds of movies aren't affected by the controversy, so it doesn't matter in the end.

I love Gibson as an actor and director, so I'll go see his movies. Doesn't matter who boycotts them.

If people don’t want to go to a movie, then don’t go to it.

Everyone has this attention seeking need to ostentatiously broadcast to the world how much they’re not going to go see some random movie (or go see such and such actor or such and such pop star, or wear Nike socks) and it’s just kind of laughable.

I'm pretty interested in the Gibson/Vaughn pairing, for one. Seems smart, casting-wise.

I loved Bonesaw Tomahawk and thought Brawl was pretty good, so this is a definite watch for me.

Can't wait to see this one. Zahler + Gibson + Vaughn = I'm in!

Loved Bone Tomahawk and Brawl in Cell Block 99 so I can't wait for this. Those movies are perfectly paced. So I hope this longer movie can sustain itself.

I love Mel Gibson's directorial and acting work so I'll give any of his films at least one watch.

This trailer hasn't been officially released, so watch it while you can I guess.

Here's the poster.

The script is great. I said on here before, but this will get a lot of mainstream hate due to some language and subject matter. There is a lot of racist cliches and dialogue, but the last 20 minutes or so are masterful. I really liked the ending. It doesn't hold back on the violence and blood.

Some quick examples of what I mean:

Vaughn character says racist stuff all the time, but he gets a pass cause he has a black wife. That's how it read to me.

Gibson and his family live in a latino neighborhood, and are afraid of what these hispanic/mexican men may or may not do to their young daughter. There is even some kind of dialogue like ''I don't hate them, but I don't want to live next to them'' that type of thing.

Leaked trailer is far better. Can't wait to watch this next month.

Does the script appear to acknowledge that these views are racist, or is it completely tone deaf?

I wouldn't call it tone deaf, but more as that being their every day lingo. The film touches on a lot of current events with the whole cops being recorded on phones beating minorities and such. Most of the middle part and the end is all about the heist.

I dug the trailer. Nothing special but I was more excited purely to see more from Zahler. If this movie is 165 minutes that can either be masterfully done or it may get tedious. Zahler's pacing is masterful in his previous films where everything builds and breaks at the correct time and they were around the two hour mark.

I hope this guy makes as many movies as he can.
