Excellent post. Also, I love that you're in your 40s and listen to Queens of The Stone Age. That's awesome. I love those guys. The ironic thing about the "purists" complaining about how "they're rapin' muh childhood!" is that, if anything, Wright is being as literally faithful to the source material as possible. His Hank Pym Ant-Man is *exactly* what he was in the comics --- a superhero fighting Commies in the 1960s, who falls down an anthill. His Scott Lang Ant-Man is *exactly* what he was in the comics --- a thief who stole the Ant-Man suit to steal enough money to pay for his daughter's life-saving operation, and who then gets mentored by Pym to become a full-fledged superhero.
Like Zack Snyder, Wright has proven that he's so faithful to source material in graphic novel adaptations that he uses the exact dialogue and the exact scenes from the comics, in Scott Pilgrim. I fully expect that he'll do the same in Ant-Man, and lift scenes and dialogue straight from the pages of "The Man In the Ant-Hill" and "To Steal An Ant-Man."
No, haters, Wright isn't destroying the source material here ---- he's going to be slavishly loyal to it.

I'm not saying the tribute sentiment behind what you said is wrong, but I think you got the Avengers thing backwards.
I think he wasn't in Avengers because of this film. Because Wright had already turned in his script and Feige was willing to wait for him to do it. It's probably the same reason why Joss wasn't able to use Wasp either.
No one wants to see elderly Hank Pym as a consultant and throwing away Hank in future phase action is just terrible. They also can't go to far in to flashbacks because they have continuity issues to worry about.
I'm trying not to let my hatred for what Marvel has done here spill in to other phase three or even phase two films but it's hard. This is simply a dumb move and it more than likely makes the overall product inferior.
They showed other studios why it's best not to screw around to a major degree with what has worked in the books for years. Then, they turn around and are doing it themselves.
Oh f***! there goes my excitement for the film, thank you very muchLike Zack Snyder

exactly my thought lol.
but nevertheless, I am excited for this movie. Just not Snyder comparisons. At least Ant-Man will be fun.

took a massive dump on Pym's character.
Some y'all need to let me borrow a time machine so I can see the movie too.
Maybe Marvel will re-think this if Ant-Man is successful and give him a "free pass" into a future Avengers. But only if the film earns enough money for that. They gave Wright carte blanche with Ant Man(for whatever reason, presumably because they had so little faith in the concept.Strange to say the least, since they have a talking raccoon waiting in the wings ) and in the process took a massive dump on Pym's character.
Anyone hoping to see Pym in the Avengers or deal with Ultron or his storied relationship with Wasp- sorry, you're outta luck. But we're supposed to except he's not an "important" enough character to get upset over, I suppose.
Whedon won't be happy
This is a terrible idea.
I mean who in the right man would ever believe that we actually would be getting an ant man movie

you can never mention a problem about a female character without the sexist accusation.
Truth is Wasp is apart of the package for cryin out loud ofcourse she can't be on her own?? they're married for cryin out loud.

Sure we will make a movie with donatello, we don't need the rest of the turtles.
and no one wants a 60 something year old wasp. These female characters must also have sex appeal whether ye want to admit it or not.
and giant man is as monumental as antman, he was in the 2nd issue of avengers if i'm not mistaken?
did you fall out of a time machine. they are not married. they weren't married when she first became the Wasp. of course she can be on her own.
