MICHAEL KEATON RETURNS (or at least in discussion) AS BATMAN

Not sure how many people watch Sean Chandler's movie channel, but he had an inside source from one of his friends who said Michael Keaton is pretty much a done deal, but he has one request, that he wants to do a Batman Beyond movie with Tim Burton.

Man I hope that's true.
Personally, that'd be terribly disappointing. I don't think Burton was a great fit for Batman to begin with let alone for Beyond with and he hasn't shown a single sign of life as a filmmaker in twenty odd years.

Enormously excited for Keaton but keep Burton away, please.

In a lot of ways, this is almost a spiritual reversal of having the original Superman factor into Crisis on Infininite Earths, except with Batman.

There are so many possibilities. They're probably going to draw from Kingdom Come and TDKR a bit, though I wouldn't expect a lot of direct references. His version of the character is just paranoid enough for the surveillance/drone angle, though.

I don't they need to be slavishly Burton. Keaton's Bruce will have evolved as a character, and it's okay for the presentation of him to evolve as well.

Keep in mind, from a story standpoint, this could be his Batman's first brush with metahumans or superpowers.

I think the BATMAN BEYOND with Batgirl thing is inspired, though he could also train/mentor multiple "bats".

There are so many possibilities.

Here’s the thing...if you don’t hire Tim Burton you’ll have to go with a journeyman hack who will have to copy his style. Might as well go with the real thing and hope that he’s able to recapture the magic he had in the 80s and 90s when he was a singular visionary.

This absolutely isn’t the case.

1. It would have been 30 years. The aesthetic for any city in that timeframe can change enough to cover for an adjustment in aesthetic that would come from a new director even in the same universe.

2. Why does “not Tim Burton specifically” have to be “journeyman hack?” Tons of superhero movies are made by already credentialed, storied directors.

It’s as simple as any good director being down to have the visual style of their Gotham look like it could have been Burton’s Gotham thirty years ago, and re-using to an extent the Elfman theme.

Most of what Burton brings to anything is aesthetic. His action isn’t notable, his writing and dialogue isn’t notable. Aesthetic is the easiest thing to copy, and besides - you wouldn’t even have to copy it, just honor it. It’s not like LA looks the exact same as it did in 1990, or New York or anywhere else. Let alone a city prone to supervillains.

I mean, not necessarily. There's a lot of young directors who are better than Burton ever was. Burton's Batman films don't even have a consistent aesthetic, while Returns for better or worse is pure Burton 89 is not a visionary auteur film on any level.

I'd be way more interested in basing the Gotham we see in Flashpoint off Furst's designs rather than the more Burton-y look of Returns. 89 is a far more aesthetically pleasing film to begin with.

I really want the Batman Beyond style movie with Batgirl. BADLY. More than doing a Keaton solo by a longshot; sorry to people who want an old man Batman film in the DCEU.

Man I want Terry Mcginnis in Batman Beyond film. I grew up loving that cartoon and character.

I think Burton could pull off the style of Beyond. Maybe I'm just getting my hopes up but dang. Still exciting either way.

In hindsight it was a good look to hold off on Barbara for BOP. I rather her get a legit origin instead of it being rushed/crammed in short team up movie

I do think Big Fish is a great movie and I like Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and people seemed alright with Sweeney Todd and Frankenweenie for the most part. I thought Sweeney Todd got some acclaim.

I think the general consensus is he peaked in 1994 though. Burton will never match the run he had from Pee Wee to Ed Wood.

He needs Batman more than Batman needs him at this point but I still love the guy for being who he is as a filmmaker. There's only one Tim Burton.

Using Terry would be more than fine. I just see more positives to it being a Batgirl. No new character as Batman and the League is less of a sausagefest. No crying like when they had different Batman in the comics. And no, Bruce wasn't still Batman with Terry in the suit, people push that narrative so they can feel okay with liking Beyond while not being okay with a new guy any other time. They even placated these people with the clone angle, so he's technically Bruce, despite having a completely different life experience and personality.

Just admit you liked a Batman that wasn't Bruce Wayne you types....You're lying to yourselves.

I really want to see that old Batsuit in action again. You know, the one that requires movement of the whole torso to look to either side.
And ofcourse the Burton's Batcar.
Both very iconic and neither should have been upgraded too much. Car and suit must still be as classic as they can be.

Lynda Carter to appear, atleast as Diana. It would be too much with two suited up Wonder Woman's.
I was so hoping that Lynda Carter would show up in Crisis. Seeing her here (maybe interacting with Keaton?? :omg:) would be even better!

Nolanverse then. Do you guys have any ideas to use that one? Maybe just refered to, but not seen?
Or Cillian Murphy to travel to Burtonverse to once again clash with Batman.
Maybe a glimpse of Michael Caine's Alfred? He'd probably do it :yay:

I think WB/DC will have to tread carefully. What they don't want is for it to look like they're shoring up a mediocre production with stunt-casting. Fortunately, Keaton - assuming it happens (c'mon WB, give us something) - lends a lot of credibility. I can't think of a CBM star people have wanted back more. Keaton must know this, and I'm sure he won't want to tarnish the legacy of his and Burton's Bat-films.

As for other cameos, budget shouldn't be a problem, so it comes down to filmmaker desire, actor desire, and availability. I think we could get a few glimpses of some bygone favourites :cwink:

Not gonna lie, I was disappointed when they made him a clone of Bruce in the Epilogue of Justice League. It is what it is. Terry Mcginnis is actually my favorite Batman haha.

Flashpoint being a backdoor pilot for a Burton Batman 3 / Batman Beyond directed by Tim Burton :wow:

Could we be so lucky?
Rewatched Batman '89 tonight. With all this rumour/news/speculation going around it was almost like seeing it for that first time in the cinema, the feeling of expectation as Elfman's theme started, and thinking 'What's coming?' :yay:

i don't know Tim Burton still has it in him tbh.
Yeah, I’m not sure about that either. Even aside from the debatable quality of his recent output, from what I’ve gathered from his interviews about B89 and Returns, it seems like those movies exhausted the **** out of him. And that was in his early thirties, I doubt he’s itching for another go-round in his sixties.

I see it like John Carpenter with the new Halloween films. If he wants input, great, but I think the time for him to be behind the camera has passed. If this is what they’re doing, find someone new and interesting to carry the torch.

Burton should just take the money and hope he actually ends up making something the masses like for the first time in a while. He might get something made later on that wouldn't happen without another Batman.

He'd be a damn fool not to take the opportunity if presented.

I love Tim Burton but I do agree that for the past 15 years he’s kinda just meandered on with his films. Although watchable and enjoyable, they are missing the unique spin & style he put in his films back in the 90s. And I’m saying this as someone that genuinely enjoyed Dumbo and Big Eyes

At this point, either coming back for Batman or Beetlejuice will be something that I feel can be very beneficial for him career wise

Everything the man directed before Mars Attacks is a classic to the majority of millennials I think. After that things get iffy but he's still got Sleepy Hollow at the very end of the 90s. Honestly Burton has more good movies than bad IMO but he's got duds to his name.

He produced another classic in Nightmare before Christmas too. That movie has quite the fanbase.

Aside from working with Keaton again, what would be the appeal for Burton to do a BEYOND movie? He's never struck me someone particularly interested in futuristic stuff.

Seems like the seed was already sewn... why would the well known bat signal of b89 change to something more angular...
