Michel Gondry Adapting Ubik

three stigmata of palmer eldritch is my favorite PDK book that i've read thus far, and one my all time favorite books.

He got the idea for Palmer Elderitch from some em, visions he was having, lol. He went through a period when he was walking home from work, and he would see this big face in the sky that was half metal, like they did with Palmer E in the book.
Man, I used to have all of these old editions of PKD novels from the 60s and 70s, with real funky covers, but I lent them all to a pal from art school and he moved away back to London without telling me, with all of my books.:cmad: He even moved back up to Glasgow and when i asked him about them he siad he didn't recall what happened to em.
Anyway, the edition of Palmer Elderitch i had was a great cover, with PE and his half metal face reaching down from the sky, just like PKD imagined it going home from work, lol.

John Lennon loved that book, and wanted to make it into a film.
It was one of my favs too, I have to get ahold of it again. there is a Batman story by Peter Milligan called 'The Idiot Root' that must be influenced by PE, same kind of deal, where at one point Batman takes a peyote type drug-plant, and ends up trapped in a dream world controlled by the super-villan he is after who lives in the plant. The *only* time I can recall seeing Batman crap his pants in a story.

This has also been/being made.

It's some kind of biopic/original story hybrid. IMDB is listing it as 2008, but i've heard nothing about it. It sounds really bad, which probably has a lot to do with it not seeing the light of day.

just found the trailer for it.

No, that's not what I was talking about. This had Paul Giamatti attached.

I've always been very tempted to get into some of PKD's works...

I wish the brilliant Gondry that made "Eternal Sunshine" and "Science of Sleep" would return. Maybe with this?

While most of the adaptions of his work are good films... they very rarely are like the stories he has written, so I have very low expectations of this turning out much like the book.
