Xbox Microsoft's role in the war in the Middle East

Japan won the console wars. Valve is winning the PC gaming war. Yes, even though Microsoft owns Windows.

The closest thing I could find was Valve being interested in adding Xbox Game Pass compatibility with Steam.

whoa, how would that even work? Steam is is its own launcher/storefront, right? what would gamepass compatibility look like?

Microsoft doesn't make money off of Steam though, do they?
Of course they do. They get a 30% cut 70% from their studio-owned games being sold just like any other publisher/developer when selling their games on Steam or any other storefronts.

It will probably be like EA Play on Steam; you can buy a subscription directly from Steam. In this case, the Xbox app and an Xbox account will be required and when launching the game from Steam, the latter will launch the Xbox app which will then launch the game.

Oops, I meant Steam/Valve gets 30% cut.

Probably just the ability to access the Steam Overlay in GamePass games?
I'm sorry I'm really not tech savvy enough to get this 🙈 what do you mean by Steam overlay?

Well yeah Microsoft gets their cut when their games are bought, same as Sony or any other publisher but I was asking about just Steam being used on Windows period.

Ohhhhhh. Well I don't see why Microsoft wouldn't agree to this, but I hope Valve changes their mind about such a partnership.

Steam is just another software that you can install on Windows. It's no different than an anti-virus software, a paint app or an income tax filing software. I don't know why you would think Microsoft could profit from Steam's revenue. Do you think Microsoft would also profit from Ubisoft, EA, CD Projekt and other publishers because they have their own storefronts on PC?

And it's MS that would go after Valve for putting Game Pass on Steam. I believe Valve doesn't have to do anything because games will eventually just appear on their storefront. Valve didn't ask Sony to get their ports just like they didn't ask Ubisoft to crawl back to Steam in 2022 after leaving it three years prior.

I had no idea, so I was just asking to be sure. I don't know if there is any sort of shared revenue like even how Sony got a small cut from Xbone sales because of the blu-ray drives in them.

I never thought about it to be honest, but then again, I don't think any other storefront compares to Steam.

well here's to hoping it stays that way. let Microsoft try to partner with Valva all they want, all they have to keep saying is no.

It something that you can launch over games to access your friends lists and such on any video game launched via Steam.

Sony receiving a % from MS because they produce the lenses for the Blu-ray drive found in Xboxes is more of an indirect revenue. Similarly, MS also gets a % from Sony because their game devs are mostly on Windows... :cwink:

In that sense, yes, we could say MS *technically* profits from Steam (or any other digital storefronts) because the majority of PC gamers are on Windows. But again, it's indirect revenue.

Gotcha. That's indirect revenue that's also unavoidable but at least Microsoft doesn't make money off of Steam any other way (other than games purchased).

I know that some people are trying to switch to Linux because of this news too but I feel like it's gonna take a lot for Microsoft to even feel a flinch of a boycott.
