I know that Heroes isn't technically about super heroes, but people gaining these extraordinary abilities.... and that it technically isn't the 'start' of super hero TV.... but, do you think that if (more than likely) Heroes is a success that it will pave the way for other networks to make TV shows based on 'super heroes'?

If the last two years have showed me one thing about TV, it's this: If a network has a really successful new hit show- chances are the next year round every other network is going to try to copy it in some fashion and deny it. Ex:

LOST ("SCIENCE-FICTION") IS A SUCCESS
- Threshold
- Invasion
- Surface
- Supernatural (was grouped with others in magazines)

PRISON BREAK (CONVICT/ CLEAR GUILT) IS A SUCCESS
- The Nine (bank hostages)
- Show about con men (forgot the name)
- Hostage (show about: hostage pov, family pov, kidnappers pov, family pov)
- RunAway (father tries to clear his name)

Now, with HEROES and what we're hearing looks to be this year's big successful break out show. Which means, mid-season and next year could be seeing lots of shows about super heroes.... wouldn't be surprised if after midseason we hear that 'Rising Stars' (for instance) is going to be on Fox, or some channel, the following year. And for CW- Heroes might decide whether or not Aquaman airs midseason (if Heroes is a break out success, Aquaman's chances of airing are 99% likely).

Do you think Heroes might pave the way for more "super hero" type shows to come in the following year?

If Heroes is a success, awesome a cool 'superhero' show!

If Heroes spawns clone shows, might be cool if those clones were also good.

If Heroes is a fa- NOT EVEN GOING TO THINK THAT

Who said they wouldn't become super heroes later on. May do an unbreakable type story line. Like the evolution of Good people with powers is equalled by Evil people with powers. Creating the need to be Superheroes.

Don't forget about the 4400. That was surpringly good. It gets really good reviews, and good ratings, no matter how B-list the acting is.

So hopefully this show is written well. After that it should all fall in place.

everything ebbs and flows. look at the reality tv pendelum.

I hope not. As always goes with movie trends, you have one or two that are really good which are then followed by quickly/cheaply done copycats that suck until they basically reach saturation point at which time the trend for the genre ends. I'd like to see the superhero trend keep going for a while so here's to not having so many movies/tv shows about them that peole get sick of them too quickly! I'm actually surprised at how log the superhero trend has held on and I can only attribute it to well-done films like the SM movies, BB, and X1&2. But put out a few 'Batman&Robin"s (even on tv) and it will be over.

whatever happened to Ultra on CBS.
I heard about it like a year ago, but now nothing.

You are absolutely right about the cloning of shows if something does well then it will without a doubt be copied. I think what shows us that the superhero genre is a success are the parodies: Incredibles, Sky high, Super ex girlfriend, and that new movie with the tool guy, also the scarymovie guys are doing a spoof of all superheroes. Now if this translates to tv depends on the success of this show. Don't forget blade is primering *sp* wed.

Only if "Heroes" is good - and some people are already saying that it's a clone of the "Lost" sci-fi success. There have already been superhero shows - "4400", "Smallville", "Birds of Prey" (cancelled), "Jake 2.0" (cancelled), "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Dark Angel".

If heroes does good it may be the revival of superhero tv. Shows like charmed ended the last of the old order. Heroes may be the start of taking away wb(or cw next fall) power to milk their heroes as soft softcore porn with 3 episodes of real material. In otherwords, these shows wont cater to sex addicted teens but people who want depth to their television. And hopefully decent costumes.

Smallville, Birds of Prey, The Flash, Lois and Clark, My Secret Identity, Roswell, Buffy, Angel (the last few arent super-hero but have that fantasy action element etc etc)

I mean it aint the first time, depends really

I want it to be good. i really do.

Wasn't there talk of a TV show based on Bendis' Alias? That would make a pretty sweet TV show. As would Powers. And Runaways.

they'd have to use a dfferent title to avoid a suit from disney

4400's been on SciFi for a while now. It's slightly better than heroes

I think the ratings, the publicity, and the fact that Heroes got picked up for a full season means the answer to this thread's question is "yes".

I think the reason we even have Heroes is due in part to Spiderman doing so well.

There's been "superhero" TV shows since the beginnings of TV. In Japan, India and Turkey, mainly.
