Military coup in Turkey

I think heard some gun fire around strategic building (National Intelligence Agency) that near to my home. Of course jets are flying all the time.

What a weird day. We'll see how serious the situation. President seems like doesn't know if head of the military chief is kidnapped or not. There are some rumors about it.

Are you in Turkey right now?

And Erdogan wants asylum in Germany. Are you kidding me? Stay the hell out and away from Germany and face the damn consequences of your ****** policies at home. If they actually allow him to seek asylum they might as well commit political suicide with the elections coming up next year (and they have commited enough suicide for almost a year by now).

Yeah at my home. A minute ago i heard lots of sounds, i don't wanna create a panic it sounds like gun fire all over the place. I makes sense, there is a very important government building near by.

Sounds like some protesters (likely Erdogan supporters) are confronting the military but the soldiers are reportedly opening fire on them. This is not going to be a bloodless coup.

Also, reports are that Ergodan is trying to head to London.

US State Department statement for those in Turkey:

So German asylum didn't work so he's seeking it in Iran. While he told his people to take to the streets in protest. There is gunfire everywhere while Erdogan is safely away from it. Freaking coward.

I wouldn't be surprised, he is always going out whenever there is a problem in country. lol.

So from what I gather Erdogan isn't a great guy? I don't know much about Erdogan and Turkey's political situation. Is this a good, or bad? I know a coup is rarely good, but it's not like a peaceful, well liked President was ousted, right?

He's a dick, yes.

Problem with Ergodan is that as bad as he was, he won the last election with over 50% of the vote and is still popular among certain parts of the populace. That's why this coup is not going to be an easy one for the military to maintain control over.

You have to admire a man who orders his people to fight while he flees to London.

So a bad leader, but with the support of the people. Yeah, this isn't gonna go sour at all.

Hard to say at this point. There are conflicting reports of who is behind the coup. As in what factions in the military, or which faction is dominant. There's a secular faction, a moderate Islamic faction, and probably just a bunch of people sick of Erdogan and his Putin-style antics.

Really, Erdogan is no prize. He has Islamist sympathies, and has been turning Turkey into an increasingly authoritarian (and religious) state.

I hope sounds is all you have to worry about. Stay safe Bane.

Eh, he may have been elected, but that doesn't mean people are going to want to fight and die for him. Especially in light of him running away.

Correct me if I am wrong, but he has jailed journalist for poking fun and cut off access to the internet and the ability to speak more the once.

Some won't. Some will. I am sure most wouldn't want to, but if enough want to do battle, it is going to go so bad.

Yes. Among other things. I think the military took biggest issue with his Islamist sympathies, and his weakness on ISIS. Basically, some have accused him of being in bed with ISIS.

The Turkish military wants to **** ISIS up.

What would you do if you were in his shoes right now?
A coup against him means he's likely to get shot at landing home, but if none of the citizens did anything it would be a mere win for the military.

Honestly, I don't want the country to fall into Civil War, I'd rather see violent members of the military stopped and prosecuted, and for situations to be more stable again.
