Wow.. politicians ask everyone to go outside and protest while they are in their safe places.
But you aren't going to get that with Erdogan as president. He's become a semi-tinpot dictator who's gotten way too chummy with Putin and certain Islamist factions and taken away numerous civil liberties that many Turks liked and wanted. What would you do if you were in his shoes right now?
A coup against him means he's likely to get shot at landing home, but if none of the citizens did anything it would be a mere win for the military.
Honestly, I don't want the country to fall into Civil War, I'd rather see violent members of the military stopped and prosecuted, and for situations to be more stable again.
Doesn't that happen everywhere?Wow.. politicians ask everyone to go outside and protest while they are in their safe places.
I didn't say better, just more stable, for the time being. But you aren't going to get that with Erdogan as president. He's become a semi-tinpot dictator who's gotten way too chummy with Putin and certain Islamist factions and taken away numerous civil liberties that many Turks liked and wanted.
I think it's going to be over soon. Government is winning at the moment.
The military or Erdogan's government?
Holy crap. I am watching CNN over here and they are saying the cops are on the side of the government, while the AP is reporting those involved with the coup are shooting on civilians. Can you tell us if this is true Bane?Helicopter of military coup is shot down by F-16 on news.
I'd hope they'd use military and law enforcement still on their side. Not ask civilians to risk their lives. What would you do if you were in his shoes right now?

That should've happened too, first.I'd hope they'd use military and law enforcement still on their side. Not ask civilians to risk their lives.
Now that you mention that, I'm afraid of hearing what Trump has to say about it.Obama has come out in favor of the Erdogan administration, saying that those in Turkey should respect the democratically-elected government.
Not in those countries. Not in any countries. You can treat your people like **** and still expect them to take a bullet for you.I'd hope they'd use military and law enforcement still on their side. Not ask civilians to risk their lives.
Yep. Many Turkey experts are saying that with the coup failing, they expect a stronger Erdogan, political reprisals, decreased civil liberties, and a more Islamist government. Turkey is turning from a pro-West country into one that more closely aligns with countries in the Middle East. Not in those countries. Not in any countries. If this coup doesn't succeed I don't even want to think about post coup Turkey. And the islamic power will probably get even bigger. Just what Europe needs right now. Islamic state right next door.
