Military coup in Turkey

Erdogan supporters are trying to blame his rival, Fethullah Gulen, for supporting the coup but Gulen's group has come out against the coup and said military intervention has no place in Turkish domestic affairs. Seems Erdogan is going to use this coup attempt to crackdown and consolidate his power. This coup is going to backfire and make things worse there.

Is it possible that the coup is a false flag operation?

Wouldn't put it past Erdogan. Seems like something a man desperate to hold onto his power would do, especially with him out of the country and seemingly safe should the move go awry.

Holy crap. I am watching CNN over here and they are saying the cops are on the side of the government, while the AP is reporting those involved with the coup are shooting on civilians. Can you tell us if this is true Bane?

You can never trust Turkish TV because they are all bought by Erdogan basically (or on his side)

What's going on is a small group of soldiers withing military tried to take over. It's not whole military against Erdogan.

At least 17 cops killed by this military coup in an attack. Some people got shot but i'm not sure how many killed or injured.

They took over governments TV station and declared don't go outside & military take over. Other TV stations and Turkish military told it's a lie, nothing official.

Head of Military is kidnapped by this military coup by the way.

I have no idea who are these soldiers. Erdogan says it's highly religious terrorist group which he was actually in good terms with them until bad blood happened between them. They are in fight over couple of years.

It might be some angry group of military who disagrees with politics of Erdogan.

They called themselves peace council.

So its less of a coup and more of a carefully orchestrated terror attack?

Its starting to feel a hell of a lot like a false flag operation to me, the ties to Erdogan, the fact that it is a small group exercising a tremendous amount of control (more than seems logical)...something isn't right.

They shoot some people now. This is what happens if dumbass people making themselves shield for politicans.

I sort of get his thinking. This is a not a revolution as the people have no role in it. This is the military violently seizing control of the government. I doubt the military will just hand control back to the people, especially since they have already decided to overthrow the people's elected leader. If the coup succeeds, we are going to be looking at a hawkish dictatorship running the show. I'm not saying that the alternative is better. But I get where the President is coming from. Coups seldom end well and even if the military does decide to return control to the people, what is the underlying message? "Democracy until the voters do something we don't like, then another violent takeover"?

There's a bullet in every chamber. But at least the military wants to take on ISIS.

Would he really try to seek asylum in Germany and address the people through FaceTime though?

It's like Hitler fleeing Berlin during the Reichstag fire, and telling the German people to rise up via carrier pigeon.

There is a possible terrorist group within government, military, everything. Very similar to League of Shadows if it makes any sense.

Or it might be false flag by government, this politicans can do anything. Erdogan wants more power.

They are also gunning down civilians in the street, so how are they any better than ISIS?

A false flag operation would not be very convincing if it looked fake.

That sounds terrifying, seriously, stay safe.

Chief of Military is saved they say.

How convenient. You'd think executing him would be the first move if this were a legitimate coup.

:yay:
Occam's razor suggests it's just a secularist faction in the military trying to depose Erdogan. This isn't the first attempt at a coup. One was foiled in 2003, and there were others before that with varying degrees of success.

2003 was BS though. It was frame to get people who is in power to jail. Frame was made by Gulen's people.

Well, violence in a coup happens, especially in this chaotic phase. That doesn't make the military behind it as bad as a group that crucifies children, carries out genocide and burns and drowns POWs alive on Youtube.

What's more likely, that Erdogan orchestrated this crazy conspiracy theory, which threatens the wellbeing of his family and his supporters, and makes him look like an incompetent coward, or that the secularists in the military who have been planning various coups for decades, are trying to oust an increasingly unpopular and authoritarian president?

The fact that they didn't take out those in power who are close Erdogan allies (like most well-coordinated coups do) seems to point to this likely being either a poorly thought out coup or a false flag operation to keep Erdogan in power.

There's a reason most coups fail...

I think you guys are giving Erdogan way too much credit.

Turkey is a country with a long history of coups (it was founded on one). Erdogan has a long history of animosity with the military.

Just because the coup hasn't gone off flawlessly does not mean it was a false flag operation.

And that is what makes it so baffling. It is coordinated enough to take control of the air waves, imprison the top military official in Turkey, bomb Parliament, and seize every major city within hours...yet at the same time it is operating with the efficiency of the Three Stooges in terms of carrying out any real goal other than inciting enough panic and fear to strengthen Erdogan's regime. It all feels very convenient to me.

Also parlamento bombed 4 times but only at doors and no big damage.

I heard a huge bomb sound. Jets still flying by.

Edit: some people are saying it's a sonic boom to make people think it's a bomb.
