Tom Cruise was absolutely right. As someone who has physically been back working on site (not from home) since May with COVID safety protocols in place, I really appreciate and completely understand his frustration. Completely different from Christian Bale's Terminator meltdown.
This is called being a boss and a leader, and holding people responsible for their actions. He didn't belittle, disparage, or insult anyone personally. He wasn't ranting about how this would effect him or his own wallet. He was frustrated because one **** up or lapse in judgement with these safety protocols could have wide-ranging ramifications. Not only could it spread the virus and get people sick, but it could shut down the production, put hundreds (if not thousands) or people out of work, delay the movie (which would hurt the theater industry), force the movie to streaming, or even affect the productions of other films that are currently filming. He said all of this out of a clear desire to protect his crew, his production (business and livelihood of many other people), and his industry as a whole.
As the producer, face, and driving force behind this iconic franchise, Cruise is essentially helping to run a business. These kind of interactions happen all of the time in workplace environments and businesses, and are sometimes completely necessary to make a point and force employees to take things seriously if they are dropping the ball or putting the business itself at risk. The fact that someone on the crew even felt the need to record and leak this to the press is shameful, IMO.
