Vladimir Mashkov has joined the cast of the fourth Mission: Impossible film, reports The Wrap.

Mashkov has appeared in dozens of Russian films, including 2004's Papa, which he also wrote and directed, but remains best known to Western audience for his 2001 role in Behind Enemy Lines, playing a Russian assassin opposite Owen Wilson.

The current line up for the Brad Bird film includes Tom Cruise (returning as Ethan Hunt), Ving Rhames (returning as Luther Stickell), Simon Pegg (returning as Benji Dunn) and newcomers to the franchise Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton.

Mission: Impossible is in production now and planned for release December 16, 2011.

Renner's on a role. Two big franchise movies coming out within a few months of each other (Mission Impossible 4, The Avengers). And they're being released by the same film studio, no less.

I think that's a bigger reason why he is getting the roles

Chris Hemworth had a small role in Star Trek and is the lead in Thor. Both movies were released by Paramount.

In the same Marvel connection. Farhan Tahir ( Raza) was one of the villains in Iron Man 2. Afterards he was cast in Star Trek as the Captain of the ship of Kirk's father . Again the studio was Paramount

And IM also had Shaun Taub and later on he appeared in another Paramount movie ( The last Airbender).

Airbender also has Noah Ringer as the lead and he's also cast in Cowboy & Aliens ( another paramount movie).

Dunno if it's deliberate that they're all cast in Paramount pics but yeah.

you think Tom Cruise will have a run sequence in the movie? ;)

Haha make fun of Tom Cruise running but there is a reason so many movies have him run in it. No actor can sell an intense running sequence like he can.

ohhh make no mistake he is the only actor who knows how to run in movies.i respect him for that.

but that doesnt change the fact that he is almost running in every movie. he is running when you would never think that the movie needs a ''run''.

yeah that is true, the man enjoys a good job haha

Tom Cruise is in Prague at the moment ’scouting locations’ (and, from what I hear, supervising some second-unit stuff) for MI:4 (it’s not called The Mission. I’m told it’s more likely going to be called Mission Impossible : Something). Yep, cameras-at-the-ready sightseers! The film is shooting under the misleading title of Aries (Paramount has a knack for their misleading codenames - they’re filming J.J Abrams’ top-secret Super 8 under the title of Darlings) when it’s in Prague, Vancouver and Dubai. Oh, and who is playing the villain this time around? The wonderful Michael Nyqvist of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo fame is in final talks. Pleased as heck with the turn he puts in in that film, Cruise and director Brad Bird reportedly contacted the talented actor and asked him if he’d be interested in beating up Ethan Hunt. “They have like a terrific 5 page fight sequence at the end of the film - brutal, brutal stuff”, says our Para-insider. “He’s this very charming, but calculating bad guy. Not your typical spy-film villain”. Funnily enough, Para also contacted Noomi Rapace to see if she’d be interested in playing the female lead. She wasn’t. Also told Cruise and Bird are trying to coax a big name star into playing the ‘boss’ of IMF, “They want a new name every movie to play the boss - they had Voight, they had Hopkins, and they had Fishburne. Offers are out to some heavywights”.

Any word on if Maggie Q and Jonathan Rhys Myers will be back?

With Renner and Patton being cast I doubt they will be.

Big names for Ethan's boss huh? Morgan Freeman, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro and Michael Douglas (if healthy) are the first names that come off the top of my head.

i think Cruise is to much working on this movie to just be killed of.

right?

My freind at CMPP said they start filming in December

Todays issue of the swedish paper "Metro" had a short interview with Nyqvist who basically said he was in Prague shooting the film (didn't sound like "final talks", it sounded like a done deal), and that there would be an ending fight (based in kick boxing style fighting) between him and Cruise.

I haven't seen any movies of Nyqvist nor do i know what kind of physical condition he's in. But i hope to god it won't be as lame at Cruise's fight with Philip Seymour Hoffman at the end of MI3. Hoffman was an excellent villain...except when he went all physical. So they inject Cruise with the bomb in his head to give him an Hoffman's overweight character an advantage :whatever:

Not every villain needs such a fight. That was the cool thing about the first MI movie. Voight was the one pulling all the strings and he was escaping. Not duking out with Cruise. If you wanna have a physical confrontation with Hunt , get a villain who looks like he can kick your ass.

Airbender also has Noah Ringer as the lead and he's also cast in Cowboy & Aliens ( another paramount movie).

Cowboys & Aliens is not a Paramount film. It's a Universal/Dreamworks one.
