Ridley Scott on Bringing Monopoly to Theaters
Source: Los Angeles Times August 6, 2007

Director Ridley Scott confirmed that he's involved with a Monopoly movie to the Los Angeles Times. He was asked what we can expect:

Monopoly is still the most popular board game -- I might be misquoting! -- in the world. So it's really finding the universe for that game. Because clearly it ought to be humorous and for the family -- the funny way it brings out, particularly when your uncle suddenly gets Park Lane and -- in England, we have Park Lane, Mayfair and Barclay Square, what's it in America? Park and Madison? So you watch people change. You're witness to Jekyll and Hyde. Somewhere in that is a hysterically amusing and I think rather exciting film

..................I think I'm gonna be sick:dry:

this got to be a joke.

what's next 'Yatzee The Motion Picture'

Well, a Where's Waldo movie was being planned at one point....

Yeah, but if Hollywood wanted to make a Monopoly movie, it should have almost immediately followed Clue. This is like a good 15 years too late, at least!

It's not like there that connected

Exactly, that 15 years late comment makes no sense.

Good lord, I wanna see this just to know if it's even POSSIBLE.

Does anyone understand the premise description?

Well, Ridley Scott is behind it- can't be that "crazy" of an idea... just don't know how he's explaining it.

The world is constantly in flux and causes someone to go crazy?

Sure it's possible the real quesiton is how do you keep the monopoly spirit. What I mean by this, is that in Clue there were actual characters you could work wtih... In monopoly there are no characters besides Mr. MoneyBags, so you have to invent all new characters with there own set of indiviual problems, etc... So the only thing monopoly about it are hte places... Will this be the next INO

People buying up property like crazy, fighting each other and some winding up in jail with the government giving them free passes out of prison.

Mr. Moneybags' dog gets run over by a race car, so he buys a battleship to blow up Park Avenue during the world grand prix!

As long as I get to be the little hat, I don't care. I'm always the hat.

This could be very interesting, almost like a satirical "Wall Street." Like a random bunch of investors and brokers in a fictional city that decide to wheel and deal around the country, causing random chaos due to it. Moneybags has to be in the flick. A movie based on Life is needed, though. Just to see how they would do it.

Well, one idea would be to have characters owing businesses representative of the game pieces.

Race Car: professional NASCAR driver
Dog: Dog Breeder
Thimble: Fashion Designer

and so on.

I think it'd be better if it was actually a giant CGI thimble...:o

Why not just call it 'National Lampoons Wall Street?'
With Leslie Nielsen as Mr. Moneybags.
The players could be: Otter, D-Day, Flounder, Van Wilder, Clark Griswold, Cousin Eddie, and Robert Hays from Airplane.

I think it actually sounds awesome.....

Bring on Risk, Life and Candyland next

Maybe a talking dog for the dog piece? woof woof!
