Monopoly

Loved Ridley's small pieces like Matchstick Men & A Good Year.
This could be his another breath between Prometheus and new Blade Runner.
Besides it would be interesting with Ed Wood scribes.
And yes I'm dead serious.

this is nver getting made :( ... so many people have been hired to do this and failed i dont see this getting started.

Again, as with the case with Battleship or Real Steel (which isn't really directly related to Rock Em Sock Em), I've never really was bothered with the negativity surrounding this movie.

So...it's based on a board game, so what? Who cares? I'm sure people had reservations when plays, novels, and comic book movies first started hitting the screens (the same with real life events of popular culture i.e., The Social Network). Sure, with those cases, there were already stories set in place, but THOSE ire truly why movies are so great. It's about taking a concept, whether obscure, simple, and/or unique, and bringing it to the screen in an imaginative way.

I don't care about the concept of its origins or where the idea came from---just make it a good movie and that's all what matters at the end of the day!

Emmett/Furla Revive Hasbro's "Monopoly"

By Garth Franklin Thursday October 4th 2012 02:14PM
Emmett/Furla Films will finance and co-produce three films based on Hasbro properties in the next two years says Deadline.
The first cab off the rank will be the film based on the board game "Monopoly" which they hope to get into production next year. Ridley Scott was previously linked as director, that's almost certainly not the case anymore.
The other two are thought to be "Action Man" and "Hungry Hungry Hippos". Brandon Grimes, Stepan Martisoyan and Remington Chase will co-produce the films while Emmett/Furla will co-finance.
Hasbro’s last overall deal was at Universal Pictures, a deal which only resulted in the big-budget flop "Battleship". Universal shed all its other Hasbro-based films in development after that, some of which have been picked up by others.

Producer Likens Monopoly Movie to The Goonies; Shoots This Summer

A casting announcement is coming soon.

By Anthony Couto
The long-gestating Monopoly movie reportedly begins shooting this summer, and according to producer Randall Emmett (2 Guns), the film can be compared to the 1980's treasure-hunt classic, The Goonies.
Speaking to Collider, the Monopoly movie producer indicated, “We’ve worked on the script for about nine months, we now have a script that we’re going to go make this summer." Emmett noted that filming will likely take place in Georgia or Louisiana, with some additional exterior work being shot in Atlantic City.
But who wrote the script? That information hasn't been revealed yet, but Emmett says that some big casting/directorial announcements are going to be announced at the start February. “[For] the director, we’re on a shortlist of a few names, and we’re beyond excited about whichever of these directors ends up coming together," says Emmett, "The cast is young kids but there is one lead, older—a guy chasing kids, lets say.”

Emmett compared the script to The Goonies, describing the 30-year-old Richard Donner/Steven Spielberg masterpiece as a "perfect analogy" for the Monopoly film, saying, "There is a treasure map… It’s a family adventure film.” Just like Goonies, Emmett intends the film to connect with both young and old audiences, noting, "We really spent a lot of time on the script really trying to create family fun for everybody."
Looking forward to The Monopoly movie? Or should studios just leave board game properties alone? We're looking at you, Battleship...
The Monopoly movie doesn't have a release date yet

Clue remains the only film I can think of that was based on a board game and was good.

Andrew Niccol will write the script for the Monopoly movie

Lionsgate and Hasbro are partnering to bring the iconic game Monopoly to the big screen, the two companies announced today. Academy Award-nominated and BAFTA award-winning writer/producer/director Andrew Niccol (The Truman Show, Gattaca, The Terminal) will write the screenplay for the Monopoly movie, which will be produced by Lionsgate and Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures. Lionsgate will finance the movie.
“Hasbro is a partner with incredible global reach, one of the most compelling brand portfolios in the world, and a signature brand in Monopoly that has multigenerational appeal,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-President Erik Feig. “Andrew Niccol is the ultimate world creator responsible for such disparate and imaginative films as The Truman Show, Gattaca, and The Terminal. He is an inspired choice to develop this timeless property into a big, crowd-pleasing event film that will appeal to kids, families and anyone who has ever played the Monopoly game.”
“As we’ve seen with our other movies and television series, Hasbro’s brands are terrific for creating engaging stories and appealing characters that speak to audiences of all ages, and together with Lionsgate we will bring Monopoly to life on the big screen,” said Stephen Davis, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer of Hasbro. “Monopoly is one of the most popular games of all time, and it will translate into a film with tremendous global appeal and marketability based on a script being deftly written by the remarkable Andrew Niccol.”
In keeping with a game that has brought so many hours of joy to so many for so long, Monopoly will be a film for all ages, visually sumptuous, heartwarming, and full of action and adventure. The story centers on a boy from Baltic Avenue who uses both Chance and Community in a quest to make his fortune, taking him on a fun, adventure-filled journey. It’s about making your own luck, what makes you truly rich and, of course, avoiding Jail time!
The Monopoly brand is the world’s favorite family gaming brand and an integral part of popular culture today. The game has been played by more than one billion people in 114 countries around the world and has been translated into 47 different languages. More people are playing the Monopoly game than ever before, offering kids and families the thrill of owning it all across a variety of platforms and formats.

A movie that will simultaneously set back gays, blacks, board games and capitalism by 10 years? Buy me a ticket for day one!

It's funny reading the first page of this thread. We've gone from Ridley Scott ten years ago to Kevin Hart today.

Ridley Scott to direct...
Andrew Niccol writing...
Kevin Hart starring, THAT I can take...
Tim Story to dire--WHAT!?!?
