I thought Mike and Sully knew each other since the third grade?

The trailer made it seem highly cliched, but knowing Pixar - I'd reckon it's just bad marketing rather than a bad final product. Because I really can't see Pixar making the cliched college two rivals who become friends in a competition story. There's gotta be something more here... right it just reeks of "I've already seen this before" but with monsters.

Yeah, in the first film Mike says:

"Ha, ha, ha. You've been jealous of my good looks since the fourth grade, pal"

I think they'll handwave that or lampshade it somehow. That's way too big of a inconsistency.

From the interview it seems like they were in the same school together. Hated what the other one was like. Went to college hoping to avoid each other. And BANG! they end up as roommates. Kind of like how the guys in 21 Jump Street only had that passing scene in high school then finally truly met later in life. Or at least that's the sense I got from the interview thing.

John Lasseter described Monsters University as an “animated college movie.” The film shows us the early relationship of Mike and Sulley, during a time period when they were enemies. They met in grade school (yes, that Mike line from the original Monsters, Inc., where he says “You’ve been jealous of my good looks since the fourth grade, pal” does hold true). When they both show up at the same university, fireworks and hilarity ensue.

I liked it, I'll go see it. The "I can't go back to jail" line has been done over and over in comedy, but that weird ass purple thing saying it is what made it funnier.

I busted out laughing at that. I haven't looked forward to a Pixar film this much since "Toy Story 3".

I think the Monsters Inc factory from the first film appears near the end of the trailer. Also the 'scream tanks' are featured. I'm guessing the final act has something to do with that.
I've learned over time that Pixar's trailers don't usually show everything. They always avoid most of the third act of their movies. So I'm really hoping to see the space-travel doors again.

Monsters Inc is my favorite Pixar film, and this recent trailer brought back some fond memories and made me smile so I will definitely be checking out University. Sully is too awesome.

How did I know someone like Helen Mirren was gonna be cast as the dean before I even read it? You can just look at the face and tell.

Lmao, Randall was such a dork. And his name's Randy in this movie, that's too funny. Also, I think the Dean has some huge wings that aren't showing on that poster. I think I might see one under her arm hidden on her back, not sure.

I saw this trailer over the weekend. My son loves Monsters Inc, so I know I'll be checking this out in theater.

Charlie Day is the voice of the purple guy?? Oh hell yeah.

Wow, I love that. ^

And I didn't know Charlie Day was going to be in this. That's a plus right there.

At first it looks like they just used the exact same models but when you see them side by side you do see how they look younger.

They even seem like more hunched from age in the older ones. I'm excited for this but yea, I just can't get too excited for any Pixar sequels that aren't The Incredibles 2
