The most likely reason is that MK 11 outsold Injustice 2 by a lot.

I like the roster of MK11. I enjoyed using Frost, Skarlet, Rain and Fujin the most. Hopefully they'd be back along with Kenshin.

Hopefully fewer Earth realm playables. I want to see Smoke return too.

If we consider the gap of the last two MK games, the neXt game should come out neXt year. There's still plenty of time in 2022/first half of 2023 to announce MK12 for 2023. If not then 2024.

what I would like to see is a create a character option like they had for I think Armageddon on the PS2 old Xbox. while it was not very good it was nice having a ninja with all white armor instead of yellow or blue etc. Considering the extensive create a character feature in Street Fighter VI I would love to see something similar to that.

I think delays to Injustice with MK being focused on instead might have been related to the potential sell-off of WB Games. If they were sold off any MK game license would be more likely to be portable over a DC license.

Seems a shame if so. Injustice still had a ton of potential to become another permanent fighting game staple. Take Two/Rockstar don’t stop making Red Dead just because GTA destroys everything.

Also a shame I have to hear “Zaslav” along with news of so many things I like.

I mean, it also kind of made sense when you look at what was in the pipeline. Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad, and WW. Probably felt having an MK in there would be better than Injustice, even if you ignore how MK 11 outsold Injustice like crazy.

But wasnt Injustice 2 still incredible successful?
Like sure if MK has more sales, focus on that...especially when those two games come from 1 studio...but still, having 2 well selling IPs seems good to me.

You lose a bit of Reveal hype like that...but hell yeah, MK12 is coming.

One of the many alleged story leaks was kind of getting rid of that if i remember correctly.
Something about the timeline being messed up like in MK11 and the Black Lantern being the main antagonists.
I dont know, the comics will have a crossover where Jon Kent is going into the Injustice universe, so they are not burying the idea completely.

A short google search tells me it sold 1.5 million units in the first 3 months.
But thats about it.
I dont know, does anybody know how much it is present in those EVO events etc?
Im currently playing it and the guild i joined is quite active.

But i doubt its close to MK11 sold units...15 million is really a ton.

Maybe its also more that Ed Boon is talking about Injustice 3 constantly.
He kept saying their next game would be either MK11 or Injustice 3 and he keeps saying he would want to make Injustice 3.

Yup, he messes around on twitter quite a lot.
And he seems to desperately want to make a Shaolin Monks Remake, considering how often he talks about it.XD

I always just assumed that Injustice would sell better since its not as gory and has a more Mainstream IP.
But they evolved Mortal Kombat so much that it is not just a game for Fighting game fans, its for all gamers.
Hell i see it on me, i havent bought any other fighting game in years, but got MK9-11 here...i even got MK10s Kollectors Edition.
The MK series just is a whole different beast as an IP.

I'm not the biggest fan of Injustice, but I can certainly see it had more potential left in it. A shame, but good news for MK fans.
