Mortal Kombat X

well guys, I decided to sit this game out.

I actually went on Youtube and checked out all the Fatalities. Maybe it's because the graphics are so much more realistic, but I actually grew uncomfortable and borderline disgusted watching the finishing moves. Plus, none of them really struck me as cool - idk, they all just seemed too "over the top" like they're trying to be as gory as possible.

Then I watched the endings for all the characters. Some were interesting, some were kind of iffy, but overall it just didn't seem like that good of a payoff.

Plus, I've been reading some of your opinions on the Story mode and how some of you thought it was kind of weak ( or at least the ending ).

So, if I get this, I'll think I'll wait till it goes on sale or until a GOTY or Komplete Edition gets released with all the DLC.

The MK series just hasn't been that appealing or interesting to me since MK 3. I'm more interested in fighting games like Street Fighter and Soul Calibur.

Haha, I like that fatality. One of the few i dig

It's brutal, I'll give it that, but it's not inspiring.

I prefer her other one more. I just wish it didn't happen so quick. Her Brutalities are awesome makes up for both.

Reallu liking this so far.

Takeda is awesome and D'Vorah. Sub Zeros Xray is awesome. Loved Scorpions fatality where h slices the face off and the brain falls out.

I don't know why you were interested then, because everything you described outside the weak story is pretty much what Mortal Kombat is and has always been.

Nostalgia, I guess?

However, this was the 1st time where watching the fatalities actually disturbed me and turned me off.

I guess it's because the graphics are so much more realistic in MK X. But also, the MK X fatalities just seemed so "elaborate" and "over the top."

In the early games, they were brutal yet relatively simple and quick.

Eh, it seems about the same as it's always been to me really. Yeah, maybe a little more complex here and there, but 90% of the ones I've seen are the same kind of stuff we've always seen and will always see.

well, keep in mind, I started to lose interest after MK 3. so I'm not as familiar with all the moves and fatalities once it made the shift to "3d" character models.

I was talking about in general, not just the 3D ones

I just beat the game and I know the ending has been highly criticized but I see nothing wrong with it. In fact, I loved it. Great teaser for the next game. [BLACKOUT]Cassie though being the one to takedown Shinnok was BS. She's a newbie and its hard to beleive she could defeat an elder god on her own without any help.[/BLACKOUT]

I didn't see how it was BS since they set it up with Johnny doing the same thing at he beginning of the game.

I just think my discomfort is due to the much greater details of gore as a result of the more realistic and powerful graphics.

If the fatalities from the early games were redone in Mk X style graphics and detail, they'd probably be just as discomforting.

I actually don't think the fatalities are that brutal.. The really brutal ones seem more cartoony to me.

I thought the fatalities in the last game were more brutal(Kung Lao and Noob come to mind) and the updated visuals don't do anything as I don't think this game looks all that much better than MK did

The one fatality I have a hard time looking at is Ferra/Torr's Better than One. I get squeemish with that

I didn't see how it was BS since they set it up with Johnny doing the same thing at he beginning of the game.

go read my other post on the issue. I explained exactly why I felt that was the case and yes it was handled differently than when Johnny did it, so it was BS

I must say, it also didn't feel right watching family members perform fatalities on each other.

anyone else feel that way?

Anything that happens outside the story doesn't matter.

Meh. Kitana and Sindel have been doing it to each other for years. Even after Sindel was no longer brainwashed.

In the tower I decided not to murder my in-game father and it felt wrong

Watching Johnny Cage pummel a character's face into the ground is grotesquely humourous, watching him do it do his daughter is off putting and saddening on so many levels. It's the only time I've felt uncomfortable watching fatalities being done.

As Johnny I've honestly never really faced Cassie or Sonya.
