I've still never seen the evidence for how games "promote" these sorts of things.

It's in the eyes of the beholder, IMO. I mean, the most games like GTA would ever promote is probably the music from the radio stations. I doubt people have ever started whacking people with baseball bats, stealing their cars and racing them while running over pedestrians. Those are all violent crimes and so is rape.

It might be sexually offensive to women, but there are a lot of games that are already. I'm not TRYING to defend the game, nor am I defending rape! I'm just saying that in reality, the double standard is not balanced. They're just video games.

True GTA involves a lot of baseball bat head smashing, murdering, drug dealing etc, however to a degree its no worse than a movie other than your controlling the lead character. However you'd never see a credable film that focused on raping woman...

it was released 3 years ago in Japan. It wasnt an isue till now when they tried to release it elsewhere. Before, Im sure most people never even heard of it. I know I didnt till I read this thread

Well, obviously it's because there is a difference in values and morals which is the key issue here. In Western and some Eastern societies, most particularly in,..maybe the last 150 years, sexual offenses particularly towards women, have been weighted almost double in according to direct violence and possibly even murder. I'm not the one to determine the reason for this, but, that's just how it's been.

On a broad level, it could boil down to religious principles from where most of the human race has relied on for emotional/spiritual guidance and social order....and this is where I can't go any further with this.

are you serious? there's a huge difference. when rape is included in a movie or a book, it's so that it can be look at with some insight, usually to show how horrible it is. this game actually promotes and encourages (virtual) rape.

I think Amazon made the best decision for them. Carrying this game opens them up to be targeted, theres bad press which could potentially lower their stock, could place them in the line of legal action, etc... Its an unnecesary hassle thats really not worth it over something that most likely wont generate many sales anyway

Not saying it will be right or valid but when has that ever stopped any of those groups that have targetted video games in the past? People sue and bring up issues for the littlest things all the time and given the nature of this game, I wouldnt be surprised. Again not worth the hassle for Amazon
