Which movies were you totally pumped and excited for, only to be totally let down?

The ones that spring to mind for me are the Matrix Revolutions and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. I loved the original Matrix, liked Reloaded alot, and... Meh, the third installment was just a huge letdown for me. Same for OUATIM... Desperado RULED ALL and I just didn't like OUATIM at all...

Thoughts?

Regardless of how much money they made, the Star Wars prequel trilogy (1999-2005) was a horrible failure when it came to telling a good compelling story with characters you felt for, as were the Robocop sequels and Superman Returns.

Just about half of the Marvel movies have all been disappointing to me.

The Hulk
Daredevil
Crank
Transporter 2
Planet of the Apes
the last 2 matrix movies
The Village
Unbreakable
Godfather 3
starwars 1-3. parts of 3 were okay but not enough to wash the stink off

Star Wars: Episode II-Attack of the Clones disappointed the **** out of me when I saw it on HBO 4 years ago. For going to the movies, Van Helsing disappointed the hell out of me. Lot's of action, but bad cgi, acting, and screenwriting.

Superman Returns
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Star Wars Episdode I: The Phantom Menace
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

All I can think of right now. I'll get more later.

Smokin' Aces
The trailer made it look like the new Snatch, with ball to the walls action scenes and good jokes. It turned out to be a pretentious turd with 2 action scenes and very bad jokes. And not to mention that it has the most ridiculous twist I have ever seen, and an absolutely idiotic ending.

The Matrix Revolutions - There should have been more action inside the matrix. and
Neo should not have been blinded

Yeah, that was my biggest complaint too. The whole appeal of the Matrix movies is the ridiculous action that happens INSIDE the Matrix. Some of the action in Revolutions was okay, but most of it was in the "real world"... And the real world sucks.

Personally I'm a huge fan of the new Star Wars movies, but I see their faults (and there are plenty) so it's obviously no surprise they're on this list for so many people.

Anyone with me on Once Upon a Time in Mexico? Friggin' Johnny Depp got more screen time than El Mariachi!

Nearly every Three-quel I can think of turned out to be disappointing:

X-Men 3
Spiderman 3
Blade: Trinity
Terminator 3
Robocop 3
Superman 3 (Although I personally enjoyed it)
Batman Forever
The Matrix Revolutions
Shrek the Third
Ocean's 13

Each one of these has redeeming qualities, and it depends on the mood I'm in when I'm viewing, but all in all...

I'm most disappointed with X3 and Spiderman 3. Series that started off strong, got stronger for the sequel and ultimately dropped the ball completely by the third ittiration...

I've yet to see POTC 3 and we still have Rush Hour 3 for the Summer 07 three-quels, but my hopes aren't high...

Granted, I don't think anyone was particularly hyped about this movie, and no one on Earth was surprised by it's sheer suckitude...but I just want to mention BloodRayne and ask how can you take a hot, nazi-killing vampire chick, and totally and completely ruin her? I mean, the potential awesomeness almost writes itself...

First, I just want to say how much I love breasts.

That out of the way, I do have a man crush on Johnny Depp...he's kinda awesome.

(did I mention how much I love breasts by the way?)

I thought we had this thread already, anyway, Van Helsing

Spidey trilogy
Prequel trilogy
Matrix 2. Revolutions is passsable imo. 2 is an incohesive mess of ****.
TMNT (corporate garbage. Not much more than a demo for the videogame. Kids today need movies that actuall aspire to do more than sell a toy. from what I hear, ratatoulle is that movie.)
X3 (the trailer gave me hope. the movie smashed it flat.)

I think the biggest problems with the third parts of comic movies is that everyone involved is only signed on for 3 movies and the characters have so much history, by the third film the producers just want to throw as much in as possible at the fault of the story. Blade, X-Men, Spidey and Batman all fell victim to this. X-Men and Spidey are the two easiest examples, number 2 of both series set up the enemy for the next chapter, Dark Phoenix and Harry Goblin, but they also wanted more stuff, mutant cure, Venom, Sandman, therefore the movies got to crowded and became a mess. Batman suffered from a bad direction, but also trying to force the Riddler and Two-Face together, two villians that don't work together, but they're cool and iconic so let's put them in the same movie. Listen to Goyer's comments in the special features/commentary for both Blade and Blade 2 and you'll see why Blade Trinity didn't work, he threw all the concepts that didn't work in those two movies into the third, just because he wanted to see them on screen.

I disagree . . . Once Upon a Time in Mexico gave us one of the best characters of all time.

not to be that guy who says I liked him way back when, but I had a man crush on him after I saw Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I can say this with confidance because I have a wife who loves him more than I do. She would leave me for him if she had the chance.
Its cool we have an understanding.
If Natalie Portman or Alyson Hannigan comes on to me its the same deal

Even the damn Godzilla poster is disapointing! His foot is no way near as big as that in the movie. If it was, skyscrapers would only come up to his ankles.

- Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
- Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Seriously, these movies were very disappointing. I just can't see why so many people love these movies. Other than special effects, they come nowhere close to achieving the same greatness of the original. Lackluster direction, slopping storytelling, and loads of action doesn't make for a good film. I wish that movies that became huge blockbusters actually deserved the coin.

That's a good point.

Anyway, mine would have to be Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. However, I knew this movie would blow before I saw it, it's just that I LOVE Mad Max and The Road Warrior SOOO much that it's such a shame they had to be ruined by a crappy sequel.

X-Men 3
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Fantastic Four
The Village
