There may have been a thread on this ages ago, but I decided to start a new one.

This thread is dedicated to movies that when you first saw them, you did not care for them at all, or did not like them very much. But on later viewings, you ended up loving it, or enjoying more so as time went on.

This is not for movies that you liked first and then hated later. It is just for films that you once did not care for, now you like.

I will start out with three of them off the top of my head.

1. Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions

Originally I fell into the same boat with many others. I had been excited ever since I saw The Matrix in theaters for its sequels. I never contributed much but I remember reading thousands of pages of people's "predictions" on what would happen in the two sequels to The Matrix. Almost so so many got into their theroies, they almost became like religions on the forums. I remember the detail of some of these theroies, and some of them were pretty good.
Then in 2003 the sequels came out and everyone really reamed them and despised them including me. People just hollered and said they were not as good as the first (which I still say is true) but people were generally upset.
But as years went on I went without seeing The Matrix trilogy for some time. But, a while back some one got me The Matrix Ultimate Collection on Blu ray that contains all the movies including Animatrix. I watched all three of them together on blu, and I ended up loving the sequels. Now I have a unpopular belief to as why many hate the sequels (not everyone) but I think so many had in their hyped stage, their own theroies or ones on the internet that they liked, that they had really written their own sequels, then when the W. Bros did something different...everyone got pissed and spit on the movies. Which looking back I did, and I just don't see it that way now.
Now I love the two sequels, and the more I watch them I get more of what Larry and Andy were trying to say, some said they rushed it, and I beg to differ. Maybe as time goes on others will see it this way too, or the newer generations will since no hype will be involved.

2. The Mist

I remember when I first saw Frank's adaptation of King's The Mist I just did not like it, this is one of those times that I was in a bad mood when I saw it, and just was not looking at the film as a whole. I walked out and thought it was stupid.
But I got it on Blu-ray a few months ago, then when I re-watched it, it just clicked with me, now it was probably my favorite horror film of the decade. I just understood the themes and allegories much more, and loved the ending.

3. Quantum of Solace

I have always been a Bond fan, and when I saw Casino Roayle I jumped with glee, it was one of my favorite films of this decade, and was a great new and fresh approach to my favorite British Spy. But when the highly anticipated sequel of Casino Roayle was released, I was very disappointed. It was not a horrible film, but I just remember thinking it had plot holes, it seemed oddly paced, it seemed to have no arc for characters or story.
But during this summer a friend of mine bought me Casino Roayle Collectors Edition and Quantum of Solace on blu ray. With it though, he sent me a link to a review by a blu ray site on Quantum of Solace. In this review the guy said that he thought Quantum of Solace has received undeserved bashing by critics.

This critic said that QoS was more like the real ending of Casino Royale, like an Expansion Set for video games. And my friend told me he understood why I was confused and just unhappy with QoS is because I had not seen CR in a long time when I had seen QoS in theaters. He told me to watch it side by side with Casino Roayle, like LOTR, he said if you started with TTT you would be confused, he said same applies with QoS.

So I re-watched QoS with CR right before it, and now I love QoS. To me it truly is just a part of CR. A flaw of the film is it cannot stand on its own like TDK, but regardless if you watch QoS with CR right before it, the character arc is beautiful and everything in QoS seems natural and just well done. The camera work even mimicing the anger in Bond, CR did leave on a cliff hanger of a man that just lost the woman he loved, and QoS finishes it and truly makes a perfect arch to brining about the Bond we all know and love. And CR and QoS together really is just a full package of the young Bond starting out. I reccomend to view it this way. (not saying everyone will feel the same)

Now people can go ahead and post what movies were like this for you.

Surprisingly, The Matrix

I went with my friends who were all very excited. I was tired as hell from a real ****** day of work and expected it to have more action due to the trailers.

Basically it the disliking of it the first time was a 50/50 split. 50% was because of how tired I was as well as my mind still focusing on some BS that happened at work the other 50% was my own fault for assuming the movie was one thing and not getting that.

Second time I saw it(also in the theatre)I was able to appreciate it a lot more and now love the film.

Kung Fu Hustle
Dragonball: The Magic Begins :awesome:

It is amazing how you actually "feel" when you go into a movie can effect it. If your just in a bad mood or something it can change an entire movie. It did that with me for "The Mist".

I guess the Harry Potter films. Like the books, I hated them, but once I read them, I loved them. Now I don't love all the films, but I guess you could say I fell in love with their magic (no pun intended) just the worlds, the character. But in terms of film, I love POA and HBP the most.

I didn't care much for The Godfather films the first time i saw it. :cmad:

I watched them during school, on like a 17" square TV. They were presented in wide screen so a large percentage of the TV was Black. It was something like an English movie analysis class. i was all the way in the back, peoples heads were in the way, others were talking, the teacher kept eating bananas, we had to take quiz's afterwords. Each class was only like 45 minutes long, so it took us an entire two weeks to watch all three of them. I wanted to kill myself. :hehe:

Then a few years later i rented Part I and Part II on Netflix, and watched them at home upclose on my 50 Inch HDTV :yay:

Completely agree.

It was because of your reason for disliking The Mist at first reminded me of The Matrix when I was trying to think of a film that would fit in this thread.

I'm sure this happens to a lot of critics. Roger Ebert must have been in a bad mood when watching Die hard, Then probably got laid the day he saw Speed 2. It makes so much sense!!!!

Armond white must feel like crap everyday then :wow: ... poor guy. :csad:

Yea that and sometimes I admit hype, or expectations have messed me up before as well, where you want it to be one way and its not. That has also happened to me, kinda like QoS/Matrix sequels. And there are a few more that I will put in here later.

Lol, I think Armond is from the opposite dimension. Something is wrong with that man.

Pretty in Pink - I used to consider it the worst of the Hughes films of the 1980s'. Now it's my second favorite after Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Monty Python & The Holy Grail - It took me a few viewings for me to really appreciate it.
Goodfellas - similar to Apollo's initial viewing of The Godfather. I was sick with the flu, had a bed headache, kept falling asleep during key moments and in general wasn't in the right frame of mind to give it my full attention and appreciate it properly. It's my second favorite movie now.

At first I thought Tropic Thunder was stupid as hell and I thought Robert Downey Jr. shouldn't have done it since he's like one of my favorite actors of all time, but now I love it and it makes me laugh my ass off and I can understand why he chose to be in it.

While I didn't exactly "hate" it at first, it took a couple of viewings for me to really appreciate 28 Days Later.

I agree 1000% with Solidus's remarks of Quantum of Solace.

for me I'm going to have to with Zach Snyders Dawn of the dead. I hated it back in 04 but i caut it at like 2 am on tv over Christmas break and I must say I apreciate it much more now.

I can't think of a movie I hated at first, then liked! what's wrong with me :argh:

Empire Strikes Back

Now keep in mind I was about 4 when I first saw this film on taped VHS. Didn't hate it, but it was my least favorite of the three movies, and I like most kids, loved Return of the Jedi with the teddy bear army. Suffice to say my opinions since have changed dramatically.

Boondock Saints...
first watched it and thought "ehh wow this wasnt good"
rewatched it again a couple years later and loved it...hmmm haha
