These were my two favorite posters from last year:

This Enemy one will definitely be in my top ten of this year:

If there's a demand for more art house style posters the studios will give in to it. But there has to be a high demand (we're def on the right track now) and it unfortunately won't be completely wide spread. The plague of badly Photoshopped superhero posters will undoubtedly continue as long as the studios have interns with time to kill

That Captain America poster makes me want to find eye bleach as fast as possible.

Marvel's posters for their last few films have been horendous. The Winter Soldier one is flat out the worst of the bunch. I find it strange that a company with such talented artists at their disposal would release ******** Photoshopping, I've seen fan posters with greater creativity than what gets release nowadays.

It's because they'd rather spend their money on tv spots, trailers, viral stuff, all rightfully so. Posters are a dying way of promotion because there are so many more effective ways to promote a movie now

That's probably my favorite recent poster.

As a heads up guys there's a really great Drew Struzan documentary on Netflix right now I highly reccomend giving it a view.

Of note: Yes that is the World Trade Center. No this movie does not take place anywhere near New York.

No Jet Jaguar? Booo!

Obviously that's copying the 70s King Kong poster though.

A poster isn't just about promotion of a film, it's representation of the film itself. It's a compliment to the film, it's mean to encapsulate the movie, it's the album cover. The problem isn't that posters are a dying way of promotion, it's that they are the last things studios think about in terms of representing their films. As a result we get the same crappy designs year in year out that anyone with a half decent knowledge of design and photoshop could knock out. A trailer is worth something only as long as the film isn't yet released, after the film comes out the trailer is redundant and has no further use. A great poster can last long after the film is released even if it's a crap film. A couple of thousand dollars is all it would take.

I'm really hoping WB can get Struzan for Batman vs Superman.

If they can't, there's another artist -- Paul Shipper -- who does official work in a similar style to Struzan's.

He doesn't seem to be in demand anymore, so why wouldn't he?

But seriously, this is just heartbreakingly atrocious:

It really is depressing. I thought the layout was fine for Iron Man 3, which actually looked good. But then when I saw the same layout for Thor: The Dark World and now Captain America 2 -- I mean, Disney isn't even trying.

As a possible alternative to Struzan, WB actually has worked with Jerry Vanderstelt who does fantastic work (He's also done many Star Wars book covers).

A great bit of work from 2012
