Movie villians who upstage the hero

De Niro as Max Cady in Cape Fear(and probably Robert Mitchum in the original too, but I have not seen that version)

Leland Gaunt in Needful Things
Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor in Superman 1
Devito's Penguin in Batman Returns

i disliked the movie gladiator, but pheonix far outshone crowe, as commodus.

Elijah Price in Unbreakable
Buddy Pine/Syndrome in The Incredibles

Bill the Butcher for Damn Sure.

The Cloverfield monter.

Doc Hopper would have been on this list if not for one thing....Doc Hopper could upstage anyone but the muppets.....if it was Delta Force Five and Doc Hopper was after Chuck Norris....Chuck Norris would have been Upstaged.

White Goodman (Ben Stiller/Dodgeball)

Christopher Walken most times he plays a villain....asside from Shreck in Batman 2.

3...maybe 4 villains in Hudson Hawk

Tim Olyphant came close in Die Hard 4

Septimus in Stardust, but only because Tristan was weak in character.

Jack Palance had his moments in Tango and Cash

And Most Importantly in sheer fighting performance, Jet Li in Lethal Weapon 4

Howard Payne in Speed(not that upstaging Reeves is any accomplishment)

This has pretty much turned into an exercise in naming villains.

i guess the villians just tend to appeal to more ppl than the hero

Even though this is was a real close one between the hero and the villain, I think most people will agree...

"Even bad guys love their mommas"

Speaking of Ben Wade....I'd love a sequel with him alone. He was that badass. Probably Crowe's best role IMO

I agree Blackbolt, I thought about that as soon as the movie was over, I would love to see that.

So I guess we all agree that every villain upstages every hero?

I'd like to see a thread the other way around. Might be much, much harder.

I don't know about upstaging the hero but Christopher Lee's Saruman in LOTR, especially the first one, was a fantastic villain!
